Chapter 172: The Hunt for the Titan Python

Chapter 172: The Hunt for the Titan Python

After his meeting with Dugu Bo, Yang Potian went straight to his father, Yang Zhentian, to inform him that he had reached level 70.

Yang Zhentian was stunned. He never expected his son to reach such a high level so quickly. Not even twenty years old and already at level 70—it was likely a record-breaking achievement.

After a moment of thought, Yang Zhentian asked, "Potian, do you have a particular spirit beast in mind? Have you thought about what kind of spirit ring you want?"

Yang Potian nodded. "Dad, do you remember the Titan Python in the Sunset Forest? I intend to make it my seventh spirit ring."

Upon hearing this, Yang Zhentian's expression turned serious. "Potian, you need to be absolutely sure about this. The difference between a sub-hundred-thousand-year spirit ring and a hundred-thousand-year ring is enormous—not just in terms of color but also in the sheer energy and soul impact. And you still don't have a head spirit bone. Even if your body can handle it, the spiritual shock might be overwhelming."

Yang Potian, resolute, replied, "I'm confident, Dad. Don't forget—I took the Dew of Eternity."

Yang Zhentian sighed. "The Titan Python is immensely powerful. If you're determined to hunt it, we might need to bring several people along. Are you sure?"

"Dad, we don't need a large group. Just you and Second Grandfather will be enough. Our clan's Seven-Colored Venom should have some effect on the Titan Python. If it works, I have a plan to finish it off."

After some thought, Yang Zhentian agreed. "Alright, but let's wait a few days for your grandfather to finish refining the Soul Explosion Pills. Then we'll gather your second grandfather and take on the Titan Python together."

Even though their clan had moved to Mount Almo, Yang Potian's second grandfather, Yang Wushuang, had only returned twice to oversee the construction of the Heavenly Xing Academy and the clan's future plans. Most of his time was still spent guarding and training at the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well.

Five days later, Yang Potian's grandfather handed him two Soul Explosion Pills. As he passed them to Potian, he warned, "Potian, be extremely careful with this hunt. A hundred-thousand-year spirit beast is no small matter. If it becomes too risky, consider targeting something with a slightly shorter lifespan. By the time you need an eighth ring, you'll be strong enough to handle any spirit."

Yang Potian nodded. "Don't worry, Grandpa. I know my limits and won't push myself too far."

With the Soul Explosion Pills in hand, Yang Potian and Yang Zhentian prepared to set off. Dugu Bo, overhearing their plans, decided to tag along, curious to see how Potian intended to handle such a formidable beast. Besides, he was getting a bit bored at the academy and figured it was a good excuse to visit Heaven Dou City as well.

The three of them flew directly to the Sunset Forest. Yang Potian didn't bother concealing his strength, unfurling his wings and matching the pace of the two Titled Douluo. To their surprise, Potian's wings granted him speed and stamina that made even the two elder Douluos envious. The wings were truly invaluable for travel, minimizing both strain and energy.

In just five days, they reached the Sunset Forest—a pace achieved only because they took breaks each night instead of flying continuously. Upon arrival, Yang Zhentian went to find Yang Wushuang, while Potian and Dugu Bo headed toward the swamp where the Titan Python dwelled, with plans to meet up nearby.

By the afternoon, Yang Zhentian and Yang Wushuang had joined them at the swamp, and the four began strategizing on how best to take down the Titan Python.

Potian took out two toxins. The first was his clan's Seven-Colored Venom, and the second was a vial of Bloody Mary—a special poison he had acquired in the Slaughter City and kept ever since, never using it until now.

Seeing the Seven-Colored Venom, Dugu Bo's interest was piqued. He remarked to Yang Wushuang, "Brother Wushuang, I didn't know your family had access to such a powerful poison! You should've let me examine it sooner."

Yang Wushuang shook his head. "Brother Dugu, this is our clan's forbidden poison. It's rarely used, and only because Potian specifically requested it. This venom is not only deadly but also has no known antidote outside of our family. If it were to leak, it could cause serious trouble."

Unfazed, Dugu Bo turned his attention to the Bloody Mary vial. After sampling a drop, he scowled. "Potian, what kind of poison is this? It's made with human blood and seems incredibly complex, nearly impossible to neutralize."

Potian chuckled. "This is a Slaughter City specialty; you won't find it anywhere else. Inside the city, everyone drinks it. Would you like a few bottles?"

Dugu Bo, visibly disturbed, responded, "Even I'm not foolish enough to drink blood for fun. Just give me a bottle or two to study."

Potian handed him two bottles but cautioned, "Remember, this Bloody Mary looks harmless, but drinking it leads to addiction and madness. There's likely no antidote on the entire continent."

Taking advantage of the opportunity, Yang Wushuang took a few vials of Bloody Mary as well. After testing it, he commented, "This poison is more complex than our Seven-Colored Venom. While it's not immediately lethal, it drives the victim into madness and dependency."

The group then settled in to wait for rain. Once it started, the toxins could spread naturally through the swamp, as direct infiltration was otherwise impossible due to the density of the muck.

A short while later, a heavy rain began to pour. Yang Wushuang took charge, dispersing the toxins into the rainwater, which carried the poisons through the entire swamp. By the time the rain ceased, the swamp had transformed into a murky, deadly pool infused with the toxins.

Even with the swamp now completely toxic, there was no sign of the Titan Python. Yang Potian had to admit that its concealment skills were top-tier, making it practically invisible in its environment.

After some time, however, they detected faint ripples of spirit energy from the swamp, and they could sense that the beast was becoming increasingly agitated. Ten days later, the Titan Python's presence was unmistakable; its murderous aura radiated outward, strong enough to instill fear even in their group. This was indeed the aura of a hundred-thousand-year spirit beast.

Finally, on that day, the Titan Python burst from the swamp, thrashing wildly, clearly maddened by the effects of the Bloody Mary it had unknowingly ingested.

As the Titan Python thrashed and writhed in its crazed state, its aura noticeably weakened, signaling that the Seven-Colored Venom was starting to take effect. Although both poisons were slow-acting, the python had been soaking in them for an extended period, and even a beast of its strength couldn't withstand it forever.

Seeing their chance as the Titan Python erupted from the swamp, the four exchanged a quick glance. Second Grandfather Yang Wushuang gave a sharp command, "Attack!"

With this, the four immediately launched into action, each summoning their martial spirits and activating powerful spirit abilities.

Dugu Bo called forth his Emerald Phosphorescent Snake Emperor and unleashed his sixth spirit skill, Emerald Serpent Break, a massive green beam shooting toward the Titan Python.

Yang Wushuang activated his eighth spirit skill, Giant Ape's Divine Destruction. His Broken Soul Spear expanded massively, a dark aura swirling around its tip, seemingly swallowing all light.

Yang Zhentian used his sixth spirit skill, Lion's Shattering Roar, aiming to obliterate anything in the path of his Broken Soul Spear.

Meanwhile, Yang Potian activated his own sixth spirit skill, Golden Lion's Roar, unleashing a beam of golden light from his spear, manifesting the shadow of a roaring golden lion.

The three attacks, timed perfectly, struck the Titan Python while it was still disoriented, inflicting several massive wounds. However, the python's formidable scales, thick as armor, limited the damage. As the Broken Soul Spear struck its body, a harsh metallic clang resounded.

Roaring furiously, the Titan Python bellowed, "Humans! How dare you ambush me!"

With this, its colossal tail whipped toward them like a gigantic iron whip, the force behind it enough to match a Titled Douluo's strike. The four dodged quickly, scattering in different directions to launch further attacks from all sides.

Yang Zhentian activated his seventh spirit skill, Martial Spirit True Body, transforming into a giant figure wielding an enlarged Broken Soul Spear, thrusting it straight at the python's head.

Dugu Bo unleashed his eighth spirit skill, Freezing Time, a blinding white light from the eyes of his Snake Emperor locking onto the python, attempting to freeze it in place.

Yang Wushuang struck the python's tail with another powerful attack, while Yang Potian stacked three of his spirit skills: Thousand Weight, Golden Power, and his fourth spirit skill, Tiger's Battle Cry. The combined skills increased his strength exponentially, turning his Broken Soul Spear into a weapon of immense weight and force. As he threw it at the python's massive body, the spear appeared unbreakable, almost unstoppable, with power rivaling a Titled Douluo's eighth spirit skill.

Their relentless assault finally inflicted severe injuries on the Titan Python. Yang Zhentian and Yang Potian's strikes punctured its head and body, while Yang Wushuang's blow slowed its tail movements.

Despite its grievous injuries, the python continued to thrash, its body whipping around wildly in one final, furious attempt to strike back.

Sensing its desperation, Dugu Bo quickly activated his head spirit bone ability, Medusa's Gaze, emitting a beam of white light that immobilized the python, halting its deadly movements just in time.

Seeing the opening, Yang Wushuang activated his Martial Spirit True Body, while Yang Potian unleashed his second spirit skill, Tiger's Destructive Strike, stacking it with the power of his first and third skills for a devastating combination.

Their battle raged on, moving from the swamp to the nearby land. They had no intention of letting the python retreat back to its lair. After nearly half an hour of fierce combat, the Titan Python finally collapsed, barely alive. The four, exhausted and their spirit energy nearly depleted, breathed heavily as they looked upon the weakened beast. For Yang Potian, this encounter with a hundred-thousand-year spirit beast had been especially grueling.

In a last-ditch attempt to self-destruct, the Titan Python tried to unleash its remaining energy. Fortunately, Dugu Bo quickly activated his head spirit bone ability again, halting the python's self-destruction and preventing a catastrophe.

Impressed, Yang Potian couldn't help but admire Dugu Bo's tactical expertise. Despite his Poison Douluo title, he was a powerful controller in battle, and his head spirit bone skill had proven invaluable.

"Potian, finish it off," Yang Zhentian called out urgently. "This Titan Python is on the brink."

Nodding, Yang Potian activated the third move of his Nine Forms of the Broken Soul Spear—Myriad Blades as One. His spear emitted countless blade-like projections, all focusing into a single point as he thrust it through the python's head.

Even with its head pierced, the Titan Python fought fiercely for several moments, its life force extraordinarily resilient. Finally, its body fell still, and a massive red spirit ring appeared above it.

Yang Potian took out some medicinal herbs, offering them to the others and consuming some himself, before sitting down to meditate and restore his spirit energy. After all, absorbing a hundred-thousand-year spirit ring was no trivial matter.
