Diverging Paths

The underground base buzzed with activity as Vanguard personnel moved with purpose. Soldiers and researchers exchanged hurried instructions, their voices blending with the rhythmic clatter of machinery. 

The shard, now secured in the research lab, was the epicenter of this frenzy, and Tobi couldn't shake the feeling that it was a powder keg waiting to explode.

Despite the commotion around him, Tobi found himself wandering the quieter corridors, his thoughts spiraling. 

His conversation with Moritaka lingered in his mind, pulling at threads he wasn't ready to untangle. Hiki's absence was like a shadow, one he couldn't escape, no matter how far he ran or how much he accomplished.

Friend's familiar voice echoed in his mind, soft yet insistent. 'Lost in thought again, are we?'

Tobi stopped in his tracks, glancing around to ensure no one else was nearby. 'What do you want, Friend?'
