The air in the Vanguard base felt heavier as Tobi and Hannah maneuvered through the labyrinthine corridors, keeping Captain Erwin in their sights.

His stiff gait and purposeful movements only added to Tobi's suspicion that Erwin was up to something more than simply overseeing the shard's security.

The man radiated authority, but there was an unsettling air about him, one that made Tobi's instincts flare like an exposed nerve.

"He's heading toward the upper labs," Hannah whispered, glancing over her shoulder to ensure they weren't being followed.

Tobi nodded, his steps silent against the cold metal floor. "What do you think he's planning?"

"Something we're not supposed to know about," Hannah replied grimly. "If the Council trusted us, we wouldn't be sneaking around like this."
