In the Hokage's office, after hearing Kakashi's detailed report on the recent exercises, Tsunade let out a deep sigh. "It seems I underestimated the situation."
Initially, she believed that with the intelligence Jiraiya and Kirito had gathered about Pain, along with their firsthand experience, Konoha had a significant advantage in preparing for Nagato. However, Kakashi's report painted a different picture.
"If Nagato is unwilling to engage at close range," Kakashi had explained, "his firepower alone keeps us pinned down. Even approaching him is extremely difficult."
Although the team had a solid understanding of Pain's individual abilities, facing Nagato, who could wield all those powers simultaneously, was a completely different challenge. Intelligence only went so far—it mostly allowed them to defend rather than counterattack effectively.
Kakashi had also proposed adding additional members to the team to target Nagato's highly mobile flying summons. He warned that if Nagato chose to retreat, the team's lack of aerial capabilities could become a serious liability.
Tsunade frowned in thought. "Hmm… I'll consider your suggestion to add more members, but for now, have the current team continue their drills. I want to evaluate their growth before making any changes. Besides, we're short on available personnel."
When Kakashi mentioned relocating the drills due to their noisy nature, Tsunade agreed immediately. "I was going to suggest that myself. The commotion yesterday was way too much, even for training purposes."
As Kakashi concluded his report, Tsunade added, "By the way, I'll need to brief you on tomorrow's changes to the exercise. Let's go over them now…"
Meanwhile, Kirito was on his way to Ichiraku Ramen, thinking about what toppings he wanted for his meal, when he was interrupted by a familiar voice.
"Wait up, Kirito!"
Turning around, he saw Jiraiya striding toward him.
"Jiraiya-sama? I thought you were busy teaching Naruto. What brings you back to the village?"
Jiraiya laughed awkwardly. "Well, about that… The two Toad Sages from Mount Myoboku asked me to invite you over as a guest. Apparently, it's part of an agreement they had with you."
Then his expression grew serious. "By the way, I owe you a big thank you. If it weren't for your help back in Amegakure, I'd probably still be sealed inside that giant rock ball."
Kirito shrugged. "I was just following Tsunade-sama's orders. She sent me to make sure the worst-case scenario didn't happen."
"No, no, don't downplay it," Jiraiya insisted. "The fact that you saved me and the two Toad Sages is undeniable. I need to thank you properly."
Leading Kirito to an empty park, Jiraiya pulled out a scroll and spread it open. "Here's a special scroll prepared by the Toad Sages. It'll allow you to perform a reverse summoning jutsu directly to Mount Myoboku. Just channel your chakra into this scroll, and it'll work.
"Normally, it would take over a month to travel there on foot, and the sages said they can't wait that long."
Kirito inspected the scroll, ensuring everything was legitimate. "Should I really go right now? Tsunade-sama still needs me to help with Kakashi's training."
"Don't worry about that. I already informed Tsunade," Jiraiya said confidently, urging Kirito to perform the summoning.
Kirito hesitated for a moment. "How about we eat first? No need to rush, right?"
Jiraiya froze, his demeanor shifting nervously. "No! We have to go now—"
"Really?" Kirito narrowed his eyes, activating his Byakugan. "What's the real reason you're so insistent?"
Cornered by Kirito's penetrating gaze, Jiraiya sighed and confessed, "Alright, fine. Fukasaku-sama didn't see you with me when I arrived at Mount Myoboku and got mad. He... let's just say he encouraged me to come back and fetch you immediately. And by encouraged, I mean he beat me senseless with a ruler."
Jiraiya rubbed the back of his head, recalling the humiliating experience. "Apparently, he thinks I'm too focused on Naruto being the 'Child of Prophecy' and forgot the basics. This is his way of teaching me a lesson."
Kirito chuckled. "So this is less about me and more about disciplining you?"
"Exactly!" Jiraiya exclaimed, throwing his hands up in defeat. "He even threatened to turn me into a physical frog if I didn't bring you back."
Kirito shook his head in mild amusement. "Alright, alright. Let's go before you end up on the wrong side of another ruler."
With a single hand seal, Kirito activated the summoning jutsu.
Boom!
In a puff of smoke, he vanished from the park.
Jiraiya, watching Kirito's flawless technique, muttered to himself, "Man, I didn't even catch when he formed the seal. What a monster…"
Moments later, Kirito felt a brief weightlessness as he was transported to Mount Myoboku.
When the smoke cleared, he found himself surrounded by lush greenery, crystal-clear streams, and the distinctive croaking of frogs.
"So this is Mount Myoboku…" Kirito murmured, his Byakugan instinctively activating to observe the environment.
What intrigued him most wasn't the serene landscape, but the distinct natural energy saturating the air. It felt different—denser, more vibrant—than anything he had encountered in the outside world.
"Welcome, Kirito!"
The voice startled him slightly, and he turned to see a small toad in a cloak perched on a nearby lily pad. The toad waved cheerfully.
