Chapter 101 New Friend/Little Mouse
Smoker woke up to the sound of a shrill scream.
Opening his eyes, he saw that the mother eagle was no longer around. The two eaglets were now viciously tearing into the little one.
Smoker's brow furrowed in annoyance. He swiftly kicked the two older eaglets aside, grabbing the little one and pulling it to safety.
Seeing how pitiful the young eagle looked, Smoker tore off a piece of meat and gently stuffed it into its mouth.
The little eagle chirped happily and eagerly swallowed the food.
Suddenly, Smoker heard whimpering beside him.
The other two eaglets were watching him with pitiful eyes.
[Sigh... the law of nature, the weak being preyed upon by the strong. Why am I even arguing with a bunch of birds?]
He threw a few pieces of meat over to the other eaglets.
The two older birds stopped whining for a moment, happily devouring the food. They sat quietly, content for the time being.
Smoker then took out some medicine and carefully applied it to the young eagle's wounds, trying to ease its pain.
Smoker muttered to himself as he worked on healing the little eagle's wounds.
"Oh, who made you so weak?" he grumbled.
"I can help you for a while, but I can't help you forever..."
The little eagle had many injuries, both old and new. Some were infected, and the wounds had started to suppurate. Smoker had to reopen some of them to drain the pus.
The little eagle remained silent the entire time. It just gazed up at Smoker with its big, watery eyes.
When Smoker finished tending to its injuries, he sighed. "I can't take you with me..."
At those words, the little eagle's eyes seemed to brighten. It flapped its wings twice and let out a chirp, as if expressing joy.
Smoker blinked in surprise. "You want to come with me?!!"
The little eagle chirped again, its eyes gleaming with excitement.
Smoker stared, stunned. "No... can you understand me?!"
The little eagle called out again.
Smoker couldn't believe it. "Huh?!!"
Just then, the mother eagle returned to the nest.
Smoker was surprised to find the nest filled with meat.
The mother eagle chirped happily, hurriedly feeding her two babies, unaware that the smallest cub and the food reserve were missing.
Smoker and the little eagle walked through the jungle.
The eaglet had grown significantly, now more than half Smoker's height. It could flutter its wings and jump, clearly not far from being able to fly. But despite its progress, it was still just a cub, and in this jungle, that meant it was little more than a sitting target.
They hadn't gone far—only a few kilometers—when they were ambushed by several waves of ferocious beasts.
Frustrated, Smoker quickly hid the little eagle in the darkness.
To his surprise, the little eagle seemed terrified of the dark.
After less than a minute, it started squawking and squirming, clearly uncomfortable.
Smoker sighed in exasperation, reluctantly taking the eagle back into his arms, only half hiding it. The eaglet's head rested on his chest, and from a distance, it looked as though Smoker were cradling a helpless baby.
Many of the beasts stopped in their tracks when they saw Smoker's unusual appearance.
[Could it be... something unclean?]
As Smoker pressed on, he reached the area where the giants had fought.
[With this guy's marksmanship and sharp senses, he probably won't be eaten by a dinosaur...]
[But where is he going? Surely, he's not stupid enough to take on two giants at once…]
To handle one of them, there's a chance—if the other is distracted and lazy enough to just swat him away without much effort.
But both of them together? A single swipe would break anything in their path to pieces finer than dust.
Smoker closed his eyes, focusing his haki.
The breath of the two giants was clear as day, like two blazing beacons in the dark night.
However, the island was filled with creatures, and pinpointing which one was Sanai among them was impossible.
"No choice, I'll leave it to luck."
Smoker chose a direction and dashed forward.
When he arrived at the source of the energy, he saw a giant warrior, his body massive and towering like a mountain. He was grilling a whole dinosaur, humming a tune as he worked. A sword longer than ten meters stood embedded in the ground beside him, worn and scarred from countless battles.
[Is this Aoi Tori...?]
Smoker couldn't help but click his tongue as he took in the giant's imposing form.
In the comics, giants like Elephant Lord, Neptune, and Oz had made the idea of giants seem almost normal. But seeing one like this in person made Smoker realize how truly massive they were.
In fact, Blue demon Dongli towered over him like a six- or seven-story building.
A man who was 1.8 meters tall would have appeared as small as a signature pen in comparison...
Smoker had just approached behind Dongli when the giant suddenly drew his enormous sword and swung it backward.
The force of the strike sent a gust of wind that tore through the surrounding trees.
When the winds and sand cleared, the tip of the massive blade was less than half a meter from Smoker's nose.
Smoker: ?!!!
Kitty: Σ(⊙▽⊙"a)
Dongli looked down at him, grinning.
"Jiejie, jiejie! Here to take my head, are you?!"
He chuckled, his tone filled with amusement. "Such a powerful presence sneaking up behind me, but not hiding your intentions at all! You underestimate me!"
Smoker stood frozen for a moment, stunned.
Could it be that these two giants actually had some awareness?
That's right, they're covered in armor-like skin, so they must be quite formidable.
But... this could be bad news for Sanai.
When the smoke and dust cleared, Dongli finally saw Smoker's appearance and couldn't help but let out a surprised sigh.
"Two heads... and one of them is a bird's head. Are there such strange races in the sea?!"
Smoker quickly waved his hand, trying to explain himself.
"Sorry, Captain Giant, I'm not here for your heads. I just came to find my friends!"
Dongli seemed to think for a moment, then shrugged with no further suspicion, or perhaps he simply didn't care to probe any deeper.
"Well, I like people who value their companions. Now that we've met, there's no reason for you to go hungry. Food's
just happened to be ready, let's eat some together!"
"Squeak (*^▽^*)~"
As soon as the little eagle's eyes lit up, the probe was about to come out.
Smoker quickly pressed it back down.
"Thank you for your kindness, but I really have to go find my friend soon. If he's not with you, then he must be with Captain Brockie. Sorry!!"
"I see..." Dongli nodded thoughtfully.
"By the way, your friend came to the Small Garden because..."
"Um..." Smoker's expression grew a little shy, and he hesitated, struggling to find the right words.
"Actually, he's here to take your heads..."
"Uh... ah?! Jie Jie Jie Jie!!"
Dongli slapped his thigh and laughed loudly, causing nearby birds and beasts to flee from the sound.
Just then, the volcano in the center of the island erupted again. Dongli stopped laughing and slowly began walking toward the volcano.
"What an interesting guy..." he murmured. "Since your friend's target is our two heads, then come with me!"
"?!!"
Dongli's attitude caught Smoker off guard.
Though Dongli was a pirate, Smoker couldn't help but admire the giant's boldness.
"Won't you warn Captain Brockie? My friend's a really good sniper."
"Jie Jie Jie, no need..." Dongli waved dismissively.
"Sniper? Boxer? Killer? Whatever he is!"
"Even if the island sinks, even if meteorites fall from the sky, as long as this volcano erupts, he'll be right in the center of the island on time."
Smoker rubbed his head, bemused.
"It's crazy, but... not annoying at all."
"Alright, then I'll leave it to you!!"
"Let's go!!"
Dongli grabbed Smoker without ceremony and began striding toward the volcano.
Brockie was already waiting there, fiddling with something.
When the two giants met, they spoke at the same time.
"Dongli, I met a little mouse!"
"Brockie, I have a new friend!"
