One Piece:Chapter 102 Two Roads
Dorry and Brogy both stood still for a moment, stunned by the sight.
Smoker quickly looked down and saw Sanai, unconscious, held in Brogy's massive hand.
Sanai was wearing a camouflage suit made of animal skins and leaves, his eyes rolled back in unconsciousness, clearly out cold. Brogy held him as if he were no more than a mouse, squeezing him lightly in his grip.
Dorry raised an eyebrow. "Hey... is this your friend?"
Smoker nodded quickly and rushed forward to stand in front of Brogy.
"Captain Brogy, I apologize for this idiot's behavior! Could you please be kind and let him go?"
Brogy leaned his large head toward Smoker, staring at him with an almost amused look. The giant's breath blew so strongly that it made Smoker's hair flutter.
[Hmm... this boy smells good...]
Brogy thought, a grin forming on his face.
"Jie Jie Jie," Brogy burst out laughing. "Crack bang bang bang, boy with two heads, you are you, and your friends are your friends."
"As a pirate, I won't get angry over your friend's behavior, don't worry!"
"But..." Brogy's tone turned serious. "I am a pirate. Since your friend chose to take a shot at us, we'll be enemies to the death. That doesn't change just because of your words!"
Smoker scratched his head, feeling helpless.
"Don't be so unkind, Captain Brogy. There must be a solution..."
Brogy looked down at the unconscious Sanai, then tossed him carelessly into a nearby pile of grass. "It's not impossible..."
Smoker glanced at Sanai, who was still moaning slightly, and felt a sense of relief wash over him. He silently thought to himself, Stupid idiot, you deserve this.
Brogy clapped his massive hands, getting Smoker's attention.
"It's not impossible to save him," Brogy said, his voice booming. "I'll give you two options!"
"First," he continued, "you can challenge me to a pirate duel, following the Elbaf tradition. If you defeat me, not only will this little mouse be free, but I'll even give you my life!"
Smoker raised an eyebrow, intrigued but cautious.
"Second," Brogy grinned, "you can offer up a treasure that will make my heart beat fast and redeem him with it."
Brogy's grin widened as he added, "But on this isolated island, there aren't many things that could tempt me. Click, click, click!"
Smoker nodded, deciding it was time to make a move. He released the little eagle from his dark space, watching as it fluttered out.
Dorry and Brogy exchanged looks of surprise.
[It's actually a bird?]
Smoker stepped forward and moved toward a clearing, his expression turning determined.
"What if I want to try both options?" he asked, his voice calm but laced with challenge.
Brogy blinked, momentarily taken aback, then let out a hearty laugh.
"Smoker then walked toward a clearing.
"What if I want to try both?" he asked, his tone calm but filled with intent.
Brogy paused, then burst into hearty laughter.
"Dorry, you've brought an interesting one! This guy's got guts!"
Smoker clenched his fists, the sound of metal clashing echoing through the air.
"Alright, Captain Brogy, let's start with the first option! I'm actually quite interested in the legendary Giant Captain!"
"Captain Dorry, mind if I borrow your opponent for a bit?" Smoker asked.
Dorry chuckled, stroking his beard. "Heh-heh-heh, no problem at all!"
With that, Dorry picked up Sanai and the little eagle, stepping aside to give the two men space for their battle.
Smoker and Brogy faced off.
Suddenly, Smoker asked, "By the way, Captain Brogy, do you know Haki?"
Brogy blinked in surprise. "Hmm? Of course I do, why?"
Smoker waved his hand nonchalantly. "Oh, nothing, just asking."
[I knew it...] Smoker thought to himself.
Brogy was the first to attack, raising his massive axe and swinging it toward Smoker.
Smoker's eye twitched.
Although he could foresee the future, facing an opponent of Brogy's massive size and his giant axe, it was a whole new level of difficulty to dodge.
Smoker used Soru to move at high speed, then activated Moon Step to jump into the air.
Brogy grinned, as if expecting this, and leaped high, bringing his giant hand down.
[This isn't good! Iron Block!] Smoker thought.
He hardened his body and coated it with Armament Haki, but he was still knocked flying, crashing into the ground with tremendous force and kicking up a cloud of dust.
Brogy shrugged and chuckled. "That's tough... but not tough enough."
Though there was smoke, Smoker wasn't injured. A few seconds later, he leapt out of the smoke, his clothes torn, but his body unharmed.
"Raging Foot!"
Smoker kicked out several gusts of wind blades, slashing Brogy's side of the face.
"Ouch, that hurt, but it's useless against me!" Brogy roared.
Smoker frowned, and with a swift motion, his legs left afterimages as hundreds of faint cyan wind blades slashed forward.
Brogy activated his Armament Haki and charged straight through the wind blades, raising his massive axe to strike down.
Smoker's eyes narrowed, and one of his legs turned black as he gathered energy, preparing to kick out a black blade of light.
"Dark Moon Slash!!"
The attack, infused with his Devil Fruit ability, shot forward like a blade of darkness.
"Hm?!" Brogy noticed, his battle-hardened instincts kicking in. He gripped his axe tightly, covering it with Haki, and swung it downward with all his might.
Before the Great Pirate Era, both the Marines and pirates didn't have much respect for Devil Fruits. They trusted their own physical strength and the Haki they trained.
Brogy was using the most common method to deal with Devil Fruit users: overpower them with immense strength and Haki!
No matter your tricks, I'll break through them with raw power!
The black axe collided with the black wind blade, but there was no sound.
After a brief moment, the wind blade dissipated.
The axe had a deep scratch across its surface.
Brogy took a few steps back, feeling his axe, his eyes showing a mix of admiration and surprise.
"What a powerful ability... it actually broke through my Haki!"
Smoker smiled slightly.
"No wonder you're the Giant Captain; that massive Haki is truly impressive!"
Smoker's attack seemed like a black hole, devouring everything in its path. No matter if it was steel or stone, it passed through effortlessly, leaving behind smooth, clean cuts.
To face this kind of attack, one either had to dodge with incredible speed and elementalization, block it with indestructible Seastone, or use a massive amount of Haki to cancel it out.
Brogy clearly used the third method, relying on his overwhelming Haki to counter Smoker's power.
Due to their race, giants who mastered Haki were rare, but once they did, their Haki could be a thousand times stronger than an average person's, thanks to their size.
(A giant's height is about 10 times that of a human, and their volume would be roughly a thousand times greater, not accounting for density...)
With that amount of Haki, they could resist almost any Devil Fruit power, even Logia types.
In fact, the attacks from the three Admirals and Enel's full-screen strikes were exceptions. Typically, it was like with Caribou, Monet, or the original Smoker—giants could easily step out of the range of a Devil Fruit's ability with a roll or a few steps.
Brogy laughed heartily.
"You're pretty impressive, kid! Now I'm going to get serious!"
He raised both hands, his arms turning black as he inserted them into a nearby mountain, lifting a hundred-meter peak with ease and throwing it toward Smoker.
"Just crazy!" Dorry muttered under his breath, quickly retreating with the little eagle and Sanai.
The massive boulder fell, blocking the sunlight.
Smoker didn't dodge. Instead, he planted his hands into the ground, dark energy swirling around his body.
"Nine-Headed Dark Dragon!!"
Suddenly, the ground began to sink, and countless dark substances surged from below, forming a monstrous dragon with nine heads.
The dragon roared, its heads wrapping around the boulder like serpents, quickly breaking it apart and devouring it.
Brogy let out a loud cry, raising his axe high.
"Nice move!! If you can withstand my next attack, you'll have won!!"
His Haki surged as his axe turned a deep purple-black color.
"Fatal Slash: Haki City!!"
Brogy shouted, swinging his axe with tremendous force.
Black lightning erupted, and the world seemed to shift colors. Suddenly, everything around them fell silent.
A shockwave exploded, like the wrath of hell or a hurricane sweeping through, its unstoppable force charging straight for Smoker.
