Lena sat back down on the sofa beside Lucas, her gaze narrowing slightly as she crossed her legs. She didn't speak right away, and that silence, the way her eyes lingered on him, put Lucas on edge. He could feel her scrutiny like a spotlight burning through him.
"So…" Lena started, her tone light but laced with something more calculated. "Cindy, huh?"
Lucas sighed, already sensing where this was going. "What about her?"
Lena tilted her head, her expression feigning innocence. "She just doesn't seem like the type of person you'd be close to. You're… not exactly the social butterfly kind."
Lucas rubbed the back of his neck, trying to keep his irritation in check. "She's just a neighbor, Lena. That's it."
"Uh-huh," Lena said, clearly unconvinced. "A neighbor who just happens to drop by unannounced, dressed like that?"
Lucas winced at the reminder. "She was just want to tease me maybe, and that is a just a joke."
