Skylar's POV
"Go left!" I yelled, clinging to the door handle as Jasper yanked the car hard to the right.
He flashed me a grin, his knuckles white on the steering wheel. "Left? You sure you're not trying to get us killed?"
A bullet dinged into the side mirror, shattering the glass.
"Jasper, this isn't the time for jokes!" Julian barked from the back seat, his voice tight. "They're gaining on us!"
I turned to look through the cracked rear window. Two sleek black SUVs were closing in fast, their headlights glaring like predatory eyes in the dark. My pulse hammered in my ears, the adrenaline coursing through me.
"I've got it under control!" Jasper growled, jerking the wheel sharply.
Tires screeching, we careened down a narrow alley, the car barely squeezing between the crumbling brick walls. I hit my shoulder against the door, and Julian grunted from behind.
