CHAPTER 72

Skylar's POV

The control room was a mess of flashing lights, ringing alarms, and the kind of chaos that drops your stomach. Jasper was hunched over the console, his fingers flying across the keys like he was playing some insane symphony. Sweat dripped from his forehead, but he didn't even blink.

"Jasper, we gotta go!" I yelled over the din as I reached in and yanked on his arm.

He shrugged me off, his tone tight but calm. "Not yet. Almost there."

Julian was already at the door, his face pale but determined. "Skylar, we're out of time. If we don't move now—"

"I'm not leaving him!" I snapped, cutting him off. My heart was pounding so hard I could feel it in my throat.

Finally, Jasper looked up, his eyes locking with mine. There was something in them-something I couldn't quite place. Resolve, sure, but also… regret? "Skylar, listen to me. You need to go. Both of you."
