Chapter 22: Nobody is good

Jay's eyes reopen as he notices Pi and himself sitting across from one another.

Pi was quietly inspecting his blade when he responded, "He was different from the last time I saw him. It was almost as if I was speaking to a different person. I was relieved that things turned out differently."

Jay coughs violently before almost collapsing to the ground. Pi got up to help Jay get to his feet, but Jay simply waved his hand away and said, "I'm fine." as he attempted to stand up but lacked the strength to do so.

Pi sighed and said, "You know my friend, I used to be stubborn and refused to let people who wanted to help get close. I felt lonely every time they left my life, which was the price I paid for my stubbornness. I am aware that the side effects have made you feel weak. I understand you want to prove yourself to the organisation. However, one of the greatest strengths one could ever have is the ability to let others help you. My friend, do not let it turn into a weakness. If not, you will make a mistake that will cause your loved ones to suffer." Jay was angry but not at Pi.

When Pi tried to help him again, Jay did not refuse, and they walked together to the sanctuary.

During the silence, Jay asked, "What now?"

"Well, as Axel mentioned, it all depends on the girl. Maybe they will come over and arrest us all, or maybe they will help us beat up Kurtis. No matter how things turn out, I will be waiting with my blade at the sanctuary." Pi said causally.

With a smile, Jay answered, "Same here, it is the less I can do."

Outside the palace, riots were breaking out back in the kingdom of Sungalepore. A large number of King Kurtis' soldiers attempted to drive the enraged nobility and royalty away.

But more kept pushing forward.

All screaming the same chants, "WE WANT ACTION. WE WANT JUSTICE."

As he watched the riots from his throne room, King Kurtis stood by his window and said, "You know how to make my situation harder. An organization that feels that people should be given justice will never acknowledge when they are at fault. Rebellious ideologies only serve to create an unjust system in which the cycle of injustice keeps repeating itself. Wouldn't you agree, son?" From behind the curtain, Shadow stepped out.

As he moved alongside his father, Shadow asked, "What are you going to do about it?"

Kurtis's grey hair has been highlighted with brown, and he grips his hands tightly. Through his armor, a bright brown symbol glowed from his bandaged arms,"I will do what I always do. That's fight and protect my people. I will hang the heads of all the Lost Brotherhood members as a warning to anyone who would dare to oppose Sungalepore." His intense glare darkened as the voices of his people echoed throughout the kingdom.

On his left, Shadow gripped his shield firmly while his ring glowed a vivid teal blue. He knelt before his father and declared, "As the prince, I will not permit criminals to cause more harm to my Kingdom's citizens. Allow me to stand with you on the front lines, Father, as we condemn these individuals who display rebellious tendencies to the hell they deserve."

Kurtis turned his head slowly in the direction of his son and said, "Allowed, demonstrated to them the consequences of defiling the Kurtis family.
