Striking resemblance

Jared

I knew this was no media inclined event which I was good with. This involved innocent minds who knew nothing about how the world worked.

Children.

Nova who was at my back was hesitant. I began to think that perhaps she wasn't good with kids.

"Hello, alpha." The children greeted.

"Hey, there! I trust you're enjoying your tour here?"

"Yes, alpha." they said in unison.

"Alright, we prepared some souvenir for you all." I answered them with a smile on my face. "After the tour, the Omegas are going to distribute them to you all."

"Thank you so much, alpha." they said in unison, once more.

"Thank this pretty woman here, she put the gifts together with the Omegas." I pulled Nova's hands bringing her forward.

She stared at me with an astonished look making me grin. "Thank you, ma'am." the students said with happy expressions.

"You are all welcome." Nova said with a smile. It's been long since I saw those.

"Thank you, ma'am, we appreciate your gestures. Thank you too, alpha." they said once more.

"You are welcome. Your tour mistress will be taking you around now. Do not give her too much trouble." I said.

"Okay, alpha." they replied.

"Do not run on the tiles." the tour mistress cautioned helping them with the excesses.

"Mum!" some little girl exclaimed running to Nova.

"Yes dear." Nova said hugging the girl in her arms.

"So you're working here? For the alpha?" she said.

I watched the both of them dumbfounded.

"Yes sweetie, why didn't you tell me the tour location was changed to here?" she whispered.

My brows furrowed in confusion as I wondered what was going on. I noticed the little girl looked so much like my little self. She had brown hair and eyes.

There was this resemblance. Or was I just imagining things?

"I need some minutes to drop her off with her classmates. I'll be back, soon." she said still carrying the girl in her hands. My eyes closed as I sniffled the air with my wolf.

It was natural and something new, something that bloomed making me want to stay. That minute my heart thudded rapidly.

Something about this child made me feel drawn, and my wolf... he was mesmerized too.

"Wait." I uttered wanting to know if this child was ours because my wolf felt connected to her.

Nova on the other hand had a look on her face.

If I was not mistaken the constant nibble of her upper lip, I'd say she was anxious right now.

"What's your name, child?" I asked.

"Claire Willows." she said glinting her growing teeth.

"I see." I said with goose pimples forming on my skin. It made me almost tremble on spot. "Claire, where is your dad-"

"Please stop." Nova interrupted that minute. "Sweetie say goodbye, we have to go now."

"Goodbye, Alpha." the little girl said.

I was left mute on spot and soon ,her classmates circled around and Nova dropped her to go meet them. She whispered something to her patting her head as she went to meet them.

The next thing she did was walk to me with some annoyed look, "What are you now, Sherlock Holmes?" she asked folding her arms in defense. "Why are you enquiring about my child's father?"

"I didn't know you had a child." I said. "Did I forget to put the part where we made the child and yet you kept that from me?"

"We? Who exactly is we because this child is not yours. She's from another man. A lover. I met him after you dumped, humiliated and rejected me." Nova said.

She walked off that minute.

She didn't even seem pregnant then. The little girl seemed about five though which was around the same time I left her. To think of it, it made sense. It was around the time I kicked her out as my Luna.

I noticed her scent changed around then.

The other day at the restaurant, she had been so emotional. She cried excessively and her hands had been white, and she seemed pale.

I recall she was admitted to the hospital at a time. Damnation, it was then.

How could I not have sensed that she was pregnant?

God. I thought heading to where the students toured in. I took sneaky glances at Claire. She seemed happy. She was also a curious child.

I noticed it from the way she asked questions.

It was now the healer's words began to sink in.

Nova ignored me throughout the day and won't talk when I asked for answers.

Thus, I went home after shifting to find answers.

"Why?!" I growled running into the woods with my wolf. God knew what she had to go through.

She went through her trimester alone and I wasn't by her side.

"I left her during the times she needed me the most. What kind of father will be forgiven for that?"

Not even ours. Something growled rumbling in my chest. It began to tear its way through only for me to realize that history repeated itself.

That bastard left. During the times I needed him the most he wasn't around.

"I swore to never let it happen to my child." I uttered.

What did you do? I began running around the forest hitting some trees in fury. The trees fell from my strength that minute.

Wondering what just happened I shifted back to human form. I wore my clothes heading home that instant. On getting home, I made some calls to the hospital Nova had been admitted in.

"Hello am I speaking to St Louis private hospital?"

"Yes Alpha, we are honored to get this call. Please tell us how we may be of help you?" the receiver answered.

"I want an appointment with the doctor that treated my previous Luna in the past."
