Chapter 74: An Uncertain Future

The sun had barely begun to rise, casting a pale glow through the bedroom curtains. I felt a warm breath against the nape of my neck, a familiar and silent presence behind me.

Alessandro was still asleep.

Since that night, he hadn't left our room. He said nothing, asked no questions, but every evening, he returned. He lay down beside me, watching over me as if he feared that if he closed his eyes, I would disappear again.

And I let him.

I no longer had the strength to fight this closeness, this warmth he radiated, which, despite everything, continued to soothe me.

I turned my head slightly, trying to catch a glimpse of his face. His breathing was steady, seemingly peaceful, but I knew that behind this calm lay a silent storm. The dark circles under his eyes spoke for him. Since we had started sharing this space again, I had noticed that he slept little, or at least, his sleep was restless.
