Chapter 92: The Price of Trust

Alessandro's cry still echoes in my ear.

"NOW, ARIANNA!"

My fingers tighten around the phone.

Mila grabs my arm.

"Come, Mrs. Valenti!"

The engine roars beneath our feet. The yacht sways slightly.

A metallic clang rings out from the port side.

Mila pales.

"Someone's boarded the yacht."

I clutch Leo to my chest.

The lower deck.

The access is there. Lorenzo must be there too.

The memory of his voice strikes me like lightning: "You should have stayed with me."

An icy shiver runs through me.

A dull thud sounds.

Then another.

The footsteps are slow. Heavy.

Mila pulls me toward the gangway.

"The wheelhouse. The captain can call for help."

I nod.

We sprint up the stairs.

Mila throws open the door.

I freeze.

The captain is there.

Slumped. Motionless.

His head tilted forward.

Blood trickles slowly down his temple.
