Chapter:44

Mega Aerodactyl's attribute is Flying + Rock. Electric moves have a normal effect on Rock Pokémon, meaning the damage is neither doubled nor halved. However, electric moves deal double damage to Flying Pokémon.

"If Mega Aerodactyl is always flying in the sky, it can't be hit at all, but now we've finally caught it. Charmeleon, [Thunder Punch]!"

Satoshi had been waiting for this moment. Charmeleon might lose this battle, but it couldn't return empty-handed. This was definitely not part of Satoshi's original plan, but he and Charmeleon had been preparing for this chance!

"Roar!"

Charmeleon roared. Its injuries were endured for this very moment. How could it stop without landing a significant blow on its opponent?

Raising its electricity-filled fist high, Charmeleon punched Mega Aerodactyl right in the abdomen!

At the same time, Charmeleon's other hand, which had been holding onto Mega Aerodactyl, loosened as if to let the opponent escape. However, it was a feint meant to strike again.

Mega Aerodactyl, already reeling from the first Thunder Punch, was caught off guard. Just as it thought it could escape from this relentless attacker, Charmeleon's injured arm began to spark with electricity. With all its might, Charmeleon landed another [Thunder Punch] on Mega Aerodactyl's chin.

The force of the attack sent Mega Aerodactyl flying a short distance. However, after delivering the strikes, Charmeleon clutched its injured arm and fell to one knee, clearly unable to continue.

Although Mega Aerodactyl had taken two Thunder Punches, leaving it with considerable injuries, it still had enough strength to fight.

"It can use [Thunder Punch]? I didn't anticipate that," Brock muttered, his expression growing serious. The back-to-back Thunder Punches had reduced Mega Aerodactyl's HP by at least a third, far more than Brock had expected from Charmeleon.

"Thank you for your hard work, Charmeleon. Return to your Poké Ball and rest."

Satoshi recalled the wounded Charmeleon. Although it could still fight, the objective had been achieved. Continuing would only invite unnecessary risks.

Besides, Brock wouldn't let Mega Aerodactyl engage Charmeleon in close combat again. If the battle continued, Charmeleon would only endure pointless damage.

"The next step is yours, Frogadier!"

Satoshi grabbed a Poké Ball from his waist and hurled it forward.

"Quack!"

Frogadier emerged onto the battlefield, brimming with energy.

Ice-type moves deal double damage to Flying Pokémon, while Water-type moves deal double damage to Rock Pokémon. Frogadier, proficient in both types, was perfectly suited to take on Mega Aerodactyl.

"Frogadier? Another second-evolution Pokémon?" Brock frowned. "This guy has trained two Pokémon into formidable fighters. Moreover, Frogadier's strength isn't much different from Charmeleon's. Add in the type advantage, and this could get troublesome."

Brock's expression tightened. "So that's your plan. Frogadier is your trump card. You sent Charmeleon out first to weaken my Pokémon as much as possible, and now you're going for the finishing blow. A simple yet effective tactic. I didn't see it coming. That was my mistake."

Indeed, if Satoshi had led with Frogadier, Brock would have focused on weakening it because of the significant threat it posed. By starting with Charmeleon, Satoshi had misled Brock into thinking it was his strongest Pokémon.

No one in their right mind would use a Pokémon with a type disadvantage unless they had no other options. Brock had underestimated Satoshi's strategy.

Now, with Frogadier entering the battle in perfect condition and boasting type advantages, it was clear Satoshi held the upper hand.

"Frogadier, [Water Pulse]!"

Satoshi was finally free to fight Brock head-on. This time, it was Mega Aerodactyl's turn to dodge the attacks.

"Quack!"

Frogadier clasped its hands together, forming a swirling ball of water that expanded as it flew through the air, creating ripples that targeted Mega Aerodactyl.

"Mega Aerodactyl, [Agility] to dodge!"

"Don't let it escape, Frogadier! Use [Quick Attack] to close in!"

Mega Aerodactyl's speed allowed it to dodge the attack, but Satoshi wasn't about to let it escape unchallenged.

Frogadier used [Quick Attack] to dart toward Mega Aerodactyl. While it couldn't fly, the move allowed it to close the distance rapidly.

As Frogadier closed in, it immediately launched another [Water Pulse], leaving Mega Aerodactyl little room to maneuver.

"I see. You're planning to wear me down," Brock muttered. "Mega Aerodactyl's already injured from the earlier fight, so its stamina isn't what it should be. If this continues, it will eventually slip up."

Understanding Satoshi's strategy, Brock knew he couldn't let the battle drag on. "Mega Aerodactyl, [Agility] to charge forward, then use [Wing Attack]!"

Mega Aerodactyl moved at its top speed, dodging the water attacks and rushing toward Frogadier. Its wings glowed, ready to strike.

"Excellent," Satoshi thought. "If Mega Aerodactyl chooses to dodge, I can control the battle's tempo. If it doesn't, both Pokémon will take damage. Either way, the tide turns in my favor."

Brock's gamble hinged on Mega Aerodactyl's enhanced melee capabilities. A successful [Wing Attack] would cause significant damage.

"I've been waiting for this! Frogadier, use [Ice Beam]!"

Satoshi had predicted Brock's tactics all along and guided him toward this moment. To ground the flying and fast-moving Mega Aerodactyl, Frogadier needed to freeze its wings.

And now, with Mega Aerodactyl flying straight at Frogadier, the opportunity had finally arrived.
