Inside the Pewter City Gym's rest area, Brock was rummaging through a drawer while Satoshi stood nearby, watching.
Before and after the gym battle, Brock had promised to give Satoshi two compensations. Now, he was searching for something suitable to fulfill his promise.
"Satoshi, here's your first compensation," Brock said with a mysterious tone as he pulled out a small locked box.
Satoshi stepped closer as Brock unlocked the box with a key he retrieved from his pocket.
Inside was a piece of amber with small red specks glimmering within it.
[Old Amber]: A fossilized piece of amber that contains the genetic material of an ancient Pokémon.
"Is this Old Amber? Brock, you have an Aerodactyl, so you should know what's inside. Why haven't you revived it?" Satoshi asked, recognizing the amber immediately.
"You already know there's an Aerodactyl inside? The Pokédex told you, didn't it?" Brock replied, surprised but quickly chalked it up to Satoshi having checked the Pokédex information.
"To be honest, I found this Old Amber in a cave. After consulting Professor Oak, I had Blaine from Cinnabar Island revive the first one, which became my Aerodactyl," Brock explained, referring to the fiery island's Gym Leader and researcher.
"And this second piece? Why didn't you have Blaine revive it too?"
Brock's expression turned serious. "Blaine has gone missing. No one has been able to contact him for a while. Some think he's abandoned his position as a Gym Leader to focus on his research, but I think there's more to it."
"You're giving me this Old Amber because you think I can find Blaine and revive the Aerodactyl?" Satoshi asked, already piecing things together.
"Exactly. You've already seen how powerful Aerodactyl is. With this as compensation, I hope it's worth your time," Brock said with a thumbs-up, his smile contrasting sharply with his tanned complexion.
"An Aerodactyl is indeed strong, but I'll need time to find Blaine. It's not exactly usable right now, but I'll accept it. I'm satisfied with this compensation," Satoshi said, stowing the amber in his inventory.
Then, he looked at Brock with a sly smile. "So, what about the second compensation?"
"..."
Brock sighed. "You really want that second reward, huh? Fine. It should be arriving soon. Let's head outside."
Pewter City Gym - Front Courtyard
Brock and Satoshi stepped outside to an open area in front of the gym.
"Mr. Satoshi, Pewter Express at your service. This is your delivery. Please sign for it," called a courier who arrived on a Pidgeot.
"An actual courier service? That's impressive," Satoshi muttered, amused, as he filled in his ID name on the delivery form.
The courier handed him a small package and departed on Pidgeot to his next destination.
"Alright, Brock, what's in here?" Satoshi asked, shaking the package slightly.
"You guessed it. I don't know what's inside either," Brock replied with a shrug and a grin.
Curious, Satoshi opened the package to reveal a letter and a Poké Ball.
"It's a Pokémon? And this letter... what could it be?"
