Midnight Preparations

Evan took his prisoner back to the cell Dobby and Winky prepared. It was just as he asked. He stunned his prisoner and then called out "Dobby, can you pop me and the prisoner in?" he asked. "Yes sirs." Dobby responded. Evan conjured barbed wire and wrapped it around the Death Eater, securing his torso and left arm, then Enervated him. "Let me explain something to you Death Eater – this is no ordinary cell, and I am no ordinary muggle. I'll be asking some questions and I will want truthful answers. I will know if you tell a lie. There will be consequences. Now, I want you to feel for your magic. Can you feel it?" He asked the Death Eater. The Death Eater first looked at Evan, with a sneer on his face, then turned to the pillar. His sneer turned into a frightened look. "I see you have noticed. This pillar and these wire cords are very special. You will notice they are dark. Very dark. That is because they tie not only your body but your very soul. Do you understand what I am saying, Death Eater?" he asked. The Death Eater did not answer. Evan applied pressure to a point at the center of the man's solar plexus – the man screamed out in pain. Evan pressed another two times before the Death Eater responded that he understood. "Name?" Evan asked. "Scabior, Tobias Scabior". "Why are you here Tobias Scabior" Evan asked. The Death Eater seemed to hesitate. Evan pressed the pressure point causing Scabior to scream out in pain. "To make sure Malfoy Jr. did what he was supposed to, and not get into too much trouble." He responded. "And why was Malfoy here?" Evan asked. "To scout out possible defenses being set up in advance of our attack.", Scabior replied. "Malfoy was supposed to report back immediately if'n he saw anything." Scabior continued. "What were his exact instructions?" Evan asked. And so the questions continued. After a few more minutes, Evan stunned Scabior and transfigured him into a twig, leaving him at the base of the pillar. Evan left Scabior in the cell and went to "collect" Malfoy, returning a few minutes later.

Evan stunned Malfoy, then called Dobby and asked to be popped back into the cell. After conjuring another barbed wire around him, Evan Enervated Malfoy. "Death Eater Malfoy. You will be held here until your sentence is carried out. Before I go, I want you to understand there is no escape for you. Look inward to your magic and tell me what you feel, Death Eater." Evan repeated what he said to Scabior, regarding the "soul magic" of the pillar. Then he stunned him once more. Dobby popped Evan out, then popped back in, invisible, and Enervated Draco. Draco sat there, staring in fear at the pillar, shaking.

Evan returned to the General. "Queen Margaret?" the General asked. "Well, sir, you could truthfully say she authorized quartering and such executions. She was Queen to King Edward I, who was the first to use quartering. The Wizards do not seem to know who the Queen of England is, sir. Since the first Death Eater didn't know, when Dr. Granger said it, I figured I would just go with the same. Sir, I got some information from the second Death Eater." "Legally, I hope, Midshipman?" "Sir, I swear I did nothing more than push on him with one finger."

"What information do you have for me, Midshipman?". "Voldemort was told by someone in the Ministry of Magic that we, the Muggles, had a source in his camp, and that we were forewarned about the previous attacks. He was also told that we set up our troops about an hour before the attacks occurred. According to Scobior, Malfoy was supposed to report back immediately if he found troops here, otherwise he was to report back at 8am. Sir, if he doesn't report back at 8am, Voldemort will assume he was captured, and possibly talked. Malfoy has told us Voldemort planned on bringing his time of attack to 10am. If Voldemort assumes Malfoy talked, he may advance his attack some more.

Furthermore, he may change how he attacks. If they apparate in, they may apparate to the roof tops." Curious, the General asked "What did you have in mind, Midshipman?" "My main worry is that they can apparate anywhere on the rooftop: on the sniper nests or in between. How do we protect the snipers? There may be cross fire issues. If they apparate on top of a snipers nest, the snipers may not have any warning. The Death Eaters can pop in and then pop out. What if we put up sandbag walls around each sniper nest, with claymores on the outside, connected to trip wires? I can cover the rest of the rooftop with Tetsubushi." Evan said.

"You have valid concerns and observations. We can have a few more troops on the rooftops whose sole purpose is overwatch on the other locations. The troops with overwatch can be equipped with smaller caliber rounds that don't have as much penetration power. I like the idea of the sandbags and claymores. In smaller spaces, the Tetsubushi would be a good idea, but the rooftop is a large area. Using proximity mines or other mines (beside the claymore) is risky and might damage the building structure." The General said. "Sir, if you can provide the sand bags and claymores up here, I will provide the rest." Evan responded. "And how are you going to do that?" the General asked. "Let's just say I have some friends in the right places", Evan said. "I'll check on you in an hour" the General replied.

Evan went to a corner and called Dobby. "Dobby. I am in need of another favor from you and Winky. Remember those sharp things I made at Hermione's the other night, and threw on the floor? I need to make a lot of them, I mean thousands of them. Can you help me? Do you think they would last longer if they were transfigured?" he asked. "Dobby thinks we can do. Can you show Dobby one". Evan transfigured a small pebble on the rooftop into a Tetsubushi. "They need to be this big, and very sharp. They need to be able to penetrate the Death Eaters shoes and cut into their feet." Evan replied. "Dobby and Winky can do either, but easier to transfigure. Dobby bes getting Winky and gravel." And then he disappeared.

An hour later, the rooftops were scattered with enough Tetsubushi that no one could go one step without putting their foot down on one. Dobby and Winky were collapsed in the corner of the roof, behind an air conditioning unit. Evan had ordered four boxes of pizza and some root beer for them.

"You have some very good friends Midshipman!" the General said, as he walked up. "I didn't see any trucks roll up, and by the looks of it you would have needed at least one if not two truckloads. There must be thousands of Tetsubushi here!" "There are just under 5,000 sir! And my friends are the best, sir" Evan said. "If I didn't know any better, I would think you had an army of house elves working for you Midshipman, but that is unlikely. I do have a different question for you Fenix. Earlier, when you started your meditation exercises, we saw you leap off the building. How in the world did you get down to the park?" "I am not sure, sir. I've been working on some new techniques with my Sensei. While entering one of the mantras, I just knew where he was, and that it was imperative I get him. The next thing I know, I'm there behind him. Same thing happened with the second one, sir." "It seems to me you are manifesting more accidental magic, Midshipman. I am surprised their Aurors haven't shown up with this level of magic occurring. Get some sleep Midshipman, we only have a few hours left before dawn, and 8am comes soon after" the General said. "Yes sir." Evan replied, then made his way to his assigned location – with Corry. Every recon and sniper team had rotating shifts during the night – one person awake, the other two would sleep.
