Chapter 21: Preliminary rounds
Hori: haruki, haruki!
Hori: I found some mail in the mail box!
Haruki: wow really? Wait did you just say haruki?
Haruki: without honorifics?!?
Hori: I mean, we're best friends now... so there isn't need in adding "san"
Haruki: kyaaaaaahhhhh! This is so embarrassing!!
Haruki yelled with a happy embarrassed face.
Hori: I know, i know!!!!
Hori also replied with an embarrassed face.
The time was 6 in the morning, man These kids sure wake up early....
Haruki: what you waiting for, open it.
Hori opened the mail and read it out loud.
Hori: "from SHO, to Hori Inori,
all participants of the SABBATH EXAMS are to head to the provided branch of SHO for the preliminary rounds!"
Hori:" time - 7:30 AM
Hori: but isn't the Sabbath exams tomorrow?
Haruki: didn't you read the mail? were going for the preliminary rounds!
He bonked her head.
Hori: hehe... but haruki, what about you, didn't you get any mail???
Haruki: yh I got an "e-mail"
He said showing hori his phone.
Hori: wowww, technology~
Hori: alright then! we best go take our bath!
Hori went to the shower first.
She was washing her body when she noticed her hand.

She ran coming from the bathroom tying a towel.
Hori: look!
She said flexing her muscles,it turns out she had become quite fit, from her training.
Haruki: woah, noice! Been a while since I've seen a muscular girl.
Hori was massaging her hand in astonishment.
Haruki: that's proof of your hard work till today!
Haruki: be proud of that!
He said with a smile.
Hori:...yes!
She said with a teary smile, so proud of her improvement since her disownnent.
Hori went back to continue bathing.
The time was now 7 in the morning, haruki was dressed in an orange shirt with blue jeans, hori wore a western jacket, black tights and the cap haruki had given her, they had already left the house and were at tengokyu's store .
Hori: waaaaaahhhh!!! Tengokyu San I'm going to miss you!!
Hori yelled hugging the old man.
Haruki: ahhhh, so that's your name.
Tengokyu: you damn punk!
Tengokyu: Hori chan, make sure you pass the exams, show em what you got!
Hori: I will!!
She said with a big smile, and bent down her head in gratitude .
They waved the old man good bye, and he returned the gesture.
Tengokyu: hahhhh... such good kids, except from the boy.
Tengokyu: (please God, watch over them, you can ignore the boy tho, but please keep hori chan safe)
Tengokyu went to open the shop after praying for hori's safe return.
Hori and haruki were walking,on their way to the Tokyo branch of SHO.
Hori: I really would have loved to tell Shuntaro san good bye.
Hori: but she's a pregnant woman, she must be busy.
Hori: now on to SHO!
They began running! yeah ain't no body paying for transport so their literally trekking from Fukui to Tokyo.
They were in the midst of running, performing parkour to avoid obstacles.
Haruki: but I wonder what the preliminary rounds will be like!
Hori: if what I'm thinking is correct, it must be a sub trial that determines if you participate in the Sabbath exams or not!
Haruki: ohh so it means if you don't pass the preliminary rounds,then you wouldn't have stood a chance in the Sabbath exams.
Hori: like separating the weak from the strong!
Haruki: yeah that makes sense.
They ran for some time,then finally reached the Tokyo branch of SHO. Their really fast.
Hori: were finally here! and it only took us about 10 minutes!
Hori:...oh my God...
There was a huge crowd blocking their way.
They were A LOT OF PEOPLE!!
Hori:woah!!
Haruki: that's a lot of people!
Cars were dropping off people, some came with taxi, some on motorcycles, some on bikes, heck some people even camped there to arrive earlier!!!
Narrator: this is considered one of the biggest events in SHO history.
Narrator: different people from different parts of Japan have come to try their best in becoming a priest!
Hori: (good morning narrator!)
Haruki: woah, look! it's a foreigner!
Haruki said pointing at a classy girl dressed in a big black shirt and white jeans, she had long black hair and wore bold Mexican earrings.
Haruki: she must be a Mexican!
Hori: haruki, stop pointing!
Haruki:...I thought you'd be more surprised at seeing a foreigner.
Hori: I have seen a lot of different races.
Hori said with a smug look.
Sir Scott: ahem!
A large figure climbed up on a podium holding a micro phone.
Hori: it's the man that saved me!
Hori was referring to the muscular man wearing sunshades,a black tight top and in soldier pants who saved her from the sin of arson.
Hori: bishop number 6,SIR ALLEN SCOTT!!!
Haruki: oh, I've heard of him!
Sir Scott: let me see, hope this script tadashi prepared isn't inappropriate...
Sir Scott:*clears throat*
Sir Scott: thank you all for gathering here today!
Sir Scott: a total of 756 people have filled the form for this year's Sabbath exams!
Sir Scott: this was left private news, but to those who pass all trials of the Sabbath exams....

The hataki opens the gate.

The two march into the gates.

The Tokyo branch of SHO was simply beautiful, fountains were sited pouring down water, besides such expensive structures.
This is where priests live and do their business, kinda like an estate and an office.
A small school was also sited far away, "SHO HIGH" .
Hori: woooow! they even have a school???
Hataki: that school is where young members of SHO attend.
A female hataki began talking.
Hataki: so they learn how to kill sins and sinners, alongside normal high school lessons.
Haruki: wow really?
The hataki nodded in response.
Hataki: however, 2 years ago SHO started accepting normal students, those without any interest in sins and what not.
Man: woooow, so this is were all our taxes go to.
Hataki: but, please, know that we are not here for site seeing.

A wide structure opened like an advanced machine.
Hori: cooool!
Hataki: please come this way, this is where the preliminary rounds will take place.
The large crowd walked into the huge gate.
The location they found themselves in was simply a ring, a big ass ring!!!
Chairs were also located at the four corners of the ring, about 800 chairs in total.
Hori: wow such a big arena!!!
She yelled in astonishment looking at the battle field.
Hori: haruki let's go find a sit!
They were looking for a sit. Until-
Hori: Shuntaro-san?!???!!!?
Mrs Shuntaro: hori-chan???????

They both asked in unity!
Haruki: wait your that pregnant lady! what you doing at SHO?!
Hori: Shuntaro san explain yourself! This is too dangerous for a pregnant woman!!

Mrs Shuntaro:.....*sigh*
Mrs Shuntaro hesitated for a while then looked at hori.
She had worried expression on her face,hori didn't want Mrs Shuntaro to get hurt.

She finally answered.
Hori: your owing money?!
Mrs Shuntaro: not me exactly, my husband.
Mrs Shuntaro: he had a debt of.... 9 million yen.

Sir Scott: okay a total of 556 people used the bribery system, for the preliminary rounds.

Sir Scott: oh, thanks, meaning 200 participants will be fighting on the ring.
Mrs Shuntaro: well, I'll see you later then, hori chan.
She waved and went to the section to show her receipt for payment.
Hori:...I hope she'll be okay...
Sir Scott: the remaining participants who did not use the bribery system, step this way.
Sir Scott gestured to a wide space close to the big ass ring.
Hori: I guess that's where we're going haruki.
They both walked there and saw some interesting characters.
They saw that Mexican girl again, and a black American boy, about the same age as haruki,he had messy brown hair that covered his eyes, and a T-shirt with a black and white divide.
Another interesting fellow was a boy about hori's age with blonde hair,he had multiple scars on each hand and didn't look friendly.
Man: I heard that's Adam-san's brother.
Woman: ehhhh really?
They were whispering behind his back.
Sir Scott, along sides two hataki came with boxes in each hand, they were both color gold.
Sir Scott: your opponents will be chosen by lottery.
Woman: OMG it's sir Scott!
Man: I.. it's such an honor sir! you've saved my family before!
He said bending down.
Sir Scott: haha, it's always my pleasure to save lives.
He then glanced at hori.
Sir Scott:....(Isn't she that girl that almost died from arsons attack?)
Sir Scott:(thank God she survived)
Sir Scott: you will be given 5 minutes each per match, the goal is simple, knock your opponent out, or get them to surrender.
Sir Scott: killing is prohibited.... for now....
Sir Scott: to save time, the arena will be divided into 2, so two people can fight each other independently.
Sir Scott: okay first person! come put your hand in the box!
Hori: gasp! it's me!
Haruki: good luck.
Hori smiled at haruki and went forward to put her hand in the box, she drew out a blue button.
Sir Scott: move to this section.
He pointed at a blue field.
Sir Scott: next!
A middle aged man Came forward to put his hand in the second box,he also got a blue button,he went to stand besides hori
Sir Scott: okay next!
It was the blonde boy.
He put his hand and picked up a red button.
Sir Scott: move to this section.
He said pointing at a red field.
Sir Scott: I don't need to explain anything anymore.
Everyone: sir yes sir!
They all picked their buttons and went to their assigned field.
Haruki: alright! I'm in blue!
Hori: hurray!
They high fived each other while smiling.
Sir Scott: (okay let me see, the first person to pick blue and and first person to pick red)
Sir Scott:( then the second person to pick blue and the second person to pick red)
Sir Scott: first up we have Hori Inori vs Friday Adams!
Sir Scott: along sides Meadow Anna versus kojiro myamoto!
Hori: okay! it's time!
She stepped towards the ring!
Haruki: you got this girl!!
The blonde boy, "Friday Adams" also stepped towards the ring.
Hori and Friday took half of the arena.
Meadow Anna, the Mexican girl haruki was pointing at stepped towards the ring, the middle aged man, kyojiro myamoto followed suite, they occupied the other half of the arena.
A pair of giant timers were above them, one for Hori versus Friday and one for Meadow versus Kyojiro
Sir Scott: as I mentioned,5 minutes per round, however,if nobody wins, both contestants will be eliminated!
Hori: no way! seriously?!
Friday: tch!
Sir Scott: aaaaand begin!
He motioned his hand permitting the clock to start counting.
We will be concentrating on Hori's fight first.
The blonde boy, Friday took a fighting stance, and so did Hori.
Friday: hmph!-
Hori: ah please time out!
She cut Friday off before he could charge forward to attack.
Meadow: what the?
She too stopped in the middle of her own match.
Sir Scott: (what the?)
Hataki: what is the matter? Contestant inori-San?!
The female hataki stopped the 5 minutes count down, for Hori versus Friday.

They all asked in unison.

Haruki began tying hori's hands with the rope.

The entire arena got quiet.
Sir Scott:....pfft!
Sir Scott: hahahahahaha hahhaaahhaahhahaahahahah!!!!
He broke out into laughter!!
So did the entire crowd!
Both people who were fighting in this round and people who used the bribery system!
Sir Scott: where the hell is Shiba! He needs to see this!!
He tried controlling his laughter!
Hori: why is everyone laughing.
She asked haruki with a worried look,he was done tying her hands.
Haruki: hahaha! hori your so clueless.
He patted her head and went back to where he was standing.
The crowd finally stopped laughing after they saw Friday's agitated face.
Friday:.... your dead.
He stated with an embarrassed and frustrated expression.
Hori stood there for some time then finally realized she might have offended Friday by saying that.
Hori: ah no no no no! please forgive me!! I didn't mean to make mockery of you!!!
She apologized performing a thousand head bows!
Hori: I...I didn't mean you are weak!
Hori: it's just, I'm at least 96 percent sure that I'm much much stronger than you!
She yelled bowing her head as low possible.
The crowd broke into laughter again!!
Friday: this bitch!
Haruki was in the background laughing his guts out!!
Sir Scott: ahahah!! okay okay enough with the skit.
He said cleaning tears from excess laughter.
Friday: I'm gonna fuckin kill you.
He stated with an EXTREMELY angry expression.
Sir Scott: woah we can't have any of that!
Sir Scott: besides, you'd turn into a sinner of murder.
Hataki: what do we do now sir?
Hataki: the boy is too angered,, if the girl is not as strong as she claims, it may lead to serious injuries.
The hataki said with a worried expression.

Sir Scott: Friday Adams, go back to the red field, your fighting a different opponent!

It's the man that was compiling the list for this year's Sabbath exams,he was dressed in a milk sweater and ash pants.
"I'll bet one million yen, on the man of course" a mysterious figure replied,he was dressed in a super hero costume that was completely white,it had a red dot on his chest representing Japan's national flag. He also had a red cape, although his face was not visible.
Tadashi: I wonder how many dark frames we'll see.
They were in a lavish room watching the match from a television.
Sir Scott: aaaand begin!
The timer started the count down!
Haruki: finally!
Every one was pumped! They didn't even pay attention to Meadow Anna's fight.
Ketai: hehe I'll be in your care!
He joked around bowing his head.

The crowd was yelling in excitement!

Friday drafted his eyes around the arena looking for where hori went to after dodging the punch.

Friday: It was obvious she dodged that attack.
Hori was standing on his head.

With her hands still tied behind her back, Hori quickly rose her right leg like a vertical split at ASTONISHING speed!
The crowd went silent.
Man:...do you smell smoke?
Haruki: no way!
He leaned in closer for a better look!
Narrator: The friction created from that sudden leg movement.
Ketai: ah...ah!!
Narrator: was enough to BURN hair.
Ketai's front beard was completely shaved.
Hori's leg was still in the air, everyone watching anticipating a drop kick!!
Ketai: (h.. here it comes!!)
The man brought both arms to guard his head!
*Dark frame*
Tadashi: hoho!
He yelled in excitement dropping the cigarette in his mouth!
Hori: hmph!
*Vhhhawwwwaaammmm!!*
Narrator: Bypassing the pitiful defense of his both hands, Hori crushed his arms and violently struck his skull, forcing his head into the ground!
Ketai was unconscious, with both arms flailing around in the air, their bones completely shattered.
*Thunk!* Hori's leg finally touched the floor after delivering the such an outstanding attack.
A hataki briefly ran up to check ketai's pulse, he was still alive!
Hataki: w... winner! Hori Inori,by knock-out!
She declared hori the winner.
Tadashi: haha! That's one!
"What the?!" The costumed man yelled!
Man:.... what just happened.
Friday: woah.
The arrogant blonde boy acknowledged Hori's strength!
Haruki: hell yeah!!!
He yelled in excitement!
Mrs Shuntaro: h... hori chan.
She shuddered in disbelief, hori was strong
..... the timer stopped at 4:30,it took only 30 seconds.
The crowd goes wild with praise!!
Sir Scott: My! how impressive!!
He was clapping his hands!
Friday: (under 30 seconds?!)

The Mexican girls match was over.
However, Participants were too absorbed in Hori's fight.
The crowd slowly claps, praising Meadow Anna for her victory.
Sir Scott: oh, I almost forgot about their match.
Sir Scott: okay, that was extremely quick! Hori Inori, Meadow Anna, you have successfully cleared the preliminary rounds!
Meadow: wow that was easy! Good thing my opponent was some middle aged man!

She said with a disappointed look, perhaps she expected facing stronger opponents, after all, she trained a lot for this .
Sir Scott: please after you pass this round, step into the hall, to await the SABBATH EXAMS!

She was looking at the hall, admiring the scenery.

Hori: (I'm actually doing it,I can feel this contract terminated!)

Narrator said mockingly.

It was the Mexican girl, she was introducing her self to hori who was busy talking to narrator.
Please read meadows dialogue in a Spanish accent.

Hori immediately stood up and shook Meadow's hand.

She said leaning on the wall and sitting down on the floor.

Hori also sat on the floor.

Note: sinners of wrath are very strong.

She said with a sad face.

The door opened again!
It was that black American boy with a white and black shirt!
He walked into the room without saying anything, and simply went to sit in a corner, bending his head.
Haruki: sure are a lot of interesting characters.
Hori: and their finishing their matches so quickly, they must be really strong!
The door opened again,it was Mrs Shuntaro!
Hori: Shuntaro san!
Mrs Shuntaro: hori chan,I got tired of watching the matches so I decided to come check on you.

Meadow pondered.
About 1 hour passes by and all participants were now in the huge hail.
Once again Sir Scott came to address the large crowd, they sure are stressing this man...
Sir Scott: ahem! since a total of 756 people came, 556 used the bribery system.
Sir Scott: leaving 200 participants for the preliminary rounds.
