CHAPTER 29: WULFE vs LEO 2

Another bright blue beam tore through space destroying chaos arrows as it headed for Wulfe.

Knowing very well that no spell could block this beam, Wulfe instead leapt several meters into the air dodging the attack and followed by a spin of his body, he landed on the ground wielding a sword swirling with dark energy.

Leo observed his opponent warily waiting for an opening, and then like an arrow Wulfe shot forward; his sword coming down in an attempt to split Leo in half. Jumping some meters into the air Leo avoided the attack and quickly launched one of his own as four deadly silver claws swiped in the night.

The supreme rolled to the left dodging most of the attack but later gritted his teeth in obvious pain when a dark blue fist connected with his face.

The punch sent Wulfe tumbling through the rubble as he struggled to regain his footing, a task he couldn't achieve for he was sent flying by a kick to the ribs.

Rolling to his right Wulfe avoided another kick and raised his sword above his head, protecting himself from a downward punch. Leo withdrew the heavy fist scowling as the dark energy fought desperately to absorb the life force within him.

"It still a mystery on how he still possesses enough mana to even conjure anything? Leo asked himself until a scary grin formed on his bestial face. "In that case I will just tire him out".

Wulfe for now didn't seem to be able to perform any other spell except the ominous dark blade, meaning that all Leo had to do was fight this out until Wulfe's body eventually shut down from the 'mana fatigue' that was sure to set in eventually.

Wulfe once again moved in, unleashing varieties of stabs and slashes while he tried his best to avoid Leo's heavy fists. Clenching his right hand Leo punched forward, sighing when a dark blade quickly intercepted the attack leaving him no choice but to use a heavy kick to dislodge Wulfe. The kick was to his surprise also blocked expertly proving that Wulfe was quite skilled when it came to using a sword.

Leo feeling a slight pain his chest, cursed knowing that he too was almost at his limits. Bearing this in mind his claws glowed bright as claw swipe after claw swipe tore through the air.

Wulfe dodged to his right, left, jumped up and at some point even crouched down all in an effort to prevent himself from cutting into pieces.

Finally, seeing that Leo seemed to have lost a lot of steam thanks to the earlier swipes, he charged in going for a stab that seemed way too obvious and making Leo wonder whether the traitor had thrown all caution to the wind.

A gradual shift to the left made the sword to lose its mark entirely leaving Wulfe open and consequently defenseless.

"Got you" Leo smiled stretching his paw forward as silvery claws made their way towards the mage's head.

*Sh*t!

Leo coughed out blood turning in the air before he landed heavily on some pieces of stone. His mind told his weakened body to get up but sadly his body seemed not eager to obey any commands.

Coughing another round of blood, Leo turned around placing a paw against a throbbing chest. An approaching triumphant and malicious laugh only made his apparent defeat even worse .

"It is only fitting that you have a hole of your own" Wulfe smiled walking forward, stopping briefly to take a look at the inclined earth pillar behind him.

Leo lost this battle due to a series of plan that Wulfe had set in motion after discovering two things about his opponent: the first being that somehow Leo was able to sense mana; which could be the only explanation on how he had managed to dodge the chaos arrows and somehow evaded the massive fireballs, the second being the fact that Leo despite his outward look and impression of strength was quite weak and heavily fatigued on the inside. And so Wulfe working with these information, conjured a darkness sword while he avoided casting any other spell in an effort to deceive Leo that he was on his last leg. Though his mana had been depleted during the course of his earlier battles, Wulfe still had enough left in the tank to cast a 'checkmate' spell.

He also allowed Leo to have an upper hand in their exchange, purposely allowing Leo to send him flying to a place in the castle ruin covered with a lot of rubble. The rest was quite simple, while Wulfe had been busy slashing and stabbing, he had been busy casting a spell with the last bit of mana left.

A spell considered simple to many but still in this situation, it seemed to be quite effective and all that was left for him to do was wait for the perfect time which came in the instant when Leo was distracted during what he thought will be the killer move.

The earthen pillar as Wulfe expected struck Leo right in the chest sending him flying and causing a high level of internal damage which would have been somewhat lessened if Leo's armor could fit his humanoid form.

"It is not yet over" Leo growled trying to get up only for him to collapse onto the ground groaning and shrinking as his body gradually returned to its human state, the armor gone due to the lack of mana needed to maintain it.

"You WILL die by my hand" Leo added panting and crawling forward.

"Not happening" Wulfe smiled breathing out in obvious relief. "You might have saved the princess but no one….

Wulfe never completed this statement for he had just collapsed onto the ground, visible exhaustion written all over his face; a clear sign of mana fatigue.

Not minding the current loss of his dark sword, Wulfe reached into his cloak, pulling out a dagger while he desperately searched for the strength required for him to stand up and finish the assassin before him.

"Not now, not now" He thought crawling forward with his dagger as he inched towards the assassin.

"I have to accomplish the task assigned to me, even if it kills me".

Looking at Leo straight in the eye, Wulfe smiled and with one last burst of energy plunged the little blade into his heart.

Leo's eyes widened, not from seeing Wulfe apparently killing himself but rather from the huge amount of mana that seemed to be emanating from the mage's body.

The blood from the body began to flow outwards turning into bright red runes and ultimately making Leo growl in frustration.

"Not AGAIN!!!
