Roxie didn't reply. She continued knocking and footsteps approached the door. Gloria had no other choice but to answer the door.
The door swung open.
"I said who is at the door?" Gloria grumbled.
Her voice died down when she saw who was at the door. Roxie did not give her the time to think. She rushed into the apartment and ran straight to the bedroom.
The bedroom was messy and there was an unpleasant smell in the air. The bed had several suspicious stains on it.
Roxie felt sick. She felt nausea attack her brutally.
She was in a tight spot though. There was no time to be sick. She quickly dropped the bags and closed the door. She locked the door in her fastest speed.
After she accomplished the first step of the plan she had mapped out, Roxie squatted beside the bags.
Her hands touched the bags that were close to her. The moment she thought of putting the bags in her space, the bags under her hands disappeared.
She repeated the process for the rest of the bags. Within minutes, there was no signs of the bags she brought into the bedroom.
The apartment had only one bedroom and one living room. It had other amenities though. She and Gloria usually share a bed.
Thinking of her shared experience with Gloria in this house and in this bedroom made Roxie feel disgusted. She regretted staying with Gloria on the same bed.
She was done with the task she planned to do.
Roxie rose to her feet.
Suddenly, the door to the room shook. Someone was continuously banging on the door.
"Roxie, you have the audacity to appear before me? Are you crazy?" Gloria's rabid voice shouted.
Gloria had lost all the pieces of her pretentious mask. Gloria usually presented herself in a way that would make others comfortable. Roxie herself had been deceived by her mask.
She thought Gloria was this kind person she was willing to go through hell and back for. How wrong she was.
Thankfully, she knows better now. People like Gloria would not be given a chance to hurt her ever again. She would make sure her experience with Gloria didn't repeat itself.
When she rushed into the house, she saw the security guard turning around to leave. Although he left with her phone, she was glad. She could still get the phone later. As long as he didn't get to see this farce, everything was fine.
Since the security guard was gone, Roxie wasn't afraid of a confrontation. She wanted to teach Gloria a lesson in the first place. She was running on a limited time frame. Nobody knows when the earth would expire finally. It was close but the exact time is still unknown.
It was better to settle her grudges before going out to shop for more necessities.
Roxie unlocked the door and turned the door knob.
When Roxie opened the door, the person behind the door moved backward a little.
Gloria was staring at Roxie like she was an enemy with a blood feud.
Roxie had a few things she needed closure for. Although her heart had upgraded into something that preferred acting as a one man army, she still wanted an explanation for her past self. That past self was kind, naive and totally lost forever.
Why did Gloria do all the things she did?
Roxie took Gloria as her family. There was nothing she couldn't share with her. The things she couldn't share with her was what Gloria stole. It was a bitter thing to experience.
"Gloria, why do you think I can't show my face here? This is also my apartment. I paid my part of the bills." Roxie started, "Tell me. Why do you think I am not entitled to this place?"
"I shouldn't have opened the door." Gloria muttered.
"Yes, you shouldn't have opened the door but you did. The past is now the past. Gloria, I want to ask you one thing. Why did you and Nelson hook up? Two of you are equally guilty. I won't blame one in favor of the other. The two of you are both disgusting and lowly." Roxie sneered.
Nelson rolled his eyes, "Wow. The next examiner for the final year exams is here. Why are you asking all these questions? Well, if you want answers, I have them in store. I just want to tell you that you don't have any patience. Besides, as a man, I have physical needs that must be satisfied. You refuse to have anything to do with me till we get married. Who does that? You can't blame me for looking for better options elsewhere."
Roxie laughed, "So, that better option you are talking about is Gloria, my best friend and roommate. I think I have to be thankful to Gloria for taking the trash bag off my hands. I can't be with a man with low self-control. A man that can't keep it in his pants is worth nothing in my eyes."
Nelson scoffed, "Keep telling yourself all that. If that is what is going to make you sleep comfortably at night, keep consoling yourself with those words. You were all over me before you discovered my little thing with Gloria. Stop trying to pretend to be someone you are not. Deep down, you are still the clingy Roxie I know."
Roxie wanted to laugh again but she stopped herself. Nelson was very mistaken. Even in her past life, she wasn't what he just described. After that betrayal, all connections between her and Nelson has been severed. Although she was hurt, didn't try to go back to the scum.
Besides, she wasn't the former Roxie. The Roxie that was standing before Gloria and Nelson was the one that had been baptized by the apocalyptic system and the various apocalyptic worlds.
"You heard everything we talked about." Gloria said.
Roxie nodded without any shame, "Yes. I heard everything. Infact, it gave me joy to listen to the two of you acting like a bunch of rats. Do you know how amusing it is to see the two riff raffs that thought they could hurt you stabbing themselves with knives? I bet you don't know how it feels."
"You were asking me why I hooked up with Nelson a few minutes ago. I will tell you. Roxie, you are too pretentious. You always like to behave like you are so much better than anyone else. That is not true. This is why I decided to take everything you have and like from you. I want everything you have. Haven't you noticed how most of your things—both the humans and nonliving things—end up in my clutches?" Gloria sneered.
Roxie rubbed the center of her brows in frustration.
Why did she think Gloria and Nelson was smart? How did they manage to hide their underground affair from her?
