Back Home

After Theo arrived at the battle scene, he didn't say any other words. The reason for his silence was obvious. Roxie wanted to laugh. Unfortunately, this wasn't the time to do so.

It felt like Theo was choking on something. His face was a little bit pale.

He looked around numerous times.

"What are you looking for?" Roxie asked in a cold voice.

"I heard chaotic noises from this direction and I knew you headed towards this area. I came over thinking I could assist you or help." Theo explained.

After the first few seconds, Theo gathered himself back together and the person that looked like he was at loss had disappeared.

There was no hint of his expectation for Roxie to be in a unfavorable position.

"How do you know where we are headed? We closed the door behind us when we were leaving. There is no way you would be able to know that." Roxie retorted.

Theo scratched his nose awkwardly, "Well, one of my group members has a superpower that helps in reconnaissance. When you were leaving, he payed attention to you unintentionally. I am sorry for that. If he didn't do that, we might not know you were in trouble."

"Who told you we were in trouble?" Roxie questioned.

She refused to give him the chance to breathe for a second.

Theo looked at the dead bodies on the floor pointedly, "It was a hunch and from rhe look of things, that hunch was right. What happened here?"

"Well, we will find out soon." Roxie gave a signal.

Kai and Ambrose launched themselves at Theo and his group members.

Normally, in a level E world, only new players would appear. There were some exceptions though. If a player didn't advance to the next level as expected, he would remain in level E worlds.

Each time a world is conquered, a player would get points at the end. Once the points get to a unique and specific level, there would be a promotion and the world those players can visit would upgrade.

No one knows if anyone in Theo's group was a repeater.

There was no time to think or strategize. Roxie just attacked.

"I told you we shouldn't do this but you didn't listen." One thin person in Theo's group said before running away.

A fierce battle started.

The battle went on for a few minutes. More injuries appeared on the bodies of Kai, Roxie and Ambrose.

Soon, the result of the battle was clear. On Theo's side, two people was dead and the others sustained grievous injuries.

Theo was in an embarrassing state.

"What is wrong with you?! Why are you attacking us indiscriminately?" Theo questioned loudly.

Roxie didn't give him a reply.

Roxie pinned him to the floor as she pummeled his face.

Blood stained her fingers. Her hand was numb but she kept hitting him over and over again.

Theo didn't have a superpower. If he did, he would have used it in the battle.

This reason might be why he was so desperate for her to join his group.

For the people without superpowers, having a huge group that could overwhelm an enemy was a big advantage.

"Why did you set us up? Do you think we are dumb or something?" Roxie questioned as she kept hitting him.

She was just suspecting Theo before. When the coward in his group said those words before running away, her guesses were basically confirmed.

She didn't know if she should commend Theo for having the guts to scheme against an unknown person before fully knowing their power. Just because of his greed to have her in his group, he was willing to play the hero save beauty game on her.

How pathetic and disgusting.

Roxie had basically figured his plan out.

He probably told the group of people that came first some false news. He must have lied to them that Roxie had an item which could stop the apocalypse but she was keeping it to herself maliciously.

This would evoke the righteous anger of the numerous human beings that were already suffering under the acid rain disaster.

Then, after a few minutes of battle, he would appear like a savior.

Maybe he thought Roxie would change her mind and promise to join his group because of his actions.

Theo couldn't speak because she didn't give him a chance to do so.

Roxie didn't need an answer to her question. She had already figured it out. Her questions was just to release some steam.

"Kai, do you have a knife or any other sharp objects with you? Ambrose, the question goes to you too. If any of you has a weapon, please lend it to me for a few minutes." Roxie requested.

Ambrose checked his bag and he presented a knife to her. She took the knife.

Theo's pupils dilated. His struggles suddenly increased.

Roxie tightened her hold.

She stabbed him in the center of his brows.

The light in Theo's eyes faded away rapidly and his struggles stopped completely. Roxie didn't waste any time, she took care of the remaining injured person on the battlefield. Ambrose had eliminated the other person.

Her body was coated with blood. It felt like the blood on her was a second skin.

"Let's go back home." She announced.

She started to walk towards the downtown area. Kai and Ambrose followed.

After an unknown amount of time passed by, they arrived at their home.

Roxie took a spare key with her when they was leaving. She unlocked the door and all of them went in.

Linda was sitting in the living room. She was reading a large book.

Somehow, it felt like the interior of the house and the scenery outside were too different worlds.

The outside world was rife with evil and the apocalypse while the interior of the house seemed like a heavenly spot with no hints of death and mayhem.

It was a welcome surprise.

Some of the fatigue hanging on Roxie's shoulders dissipated.

Linda raised her head the moment they entered the living room. The smell of blood spread rapidly.

Linda looked at the three of them with concern. Actually, she mainly looked at Kai and Ambrose.

Roxie was ignored.

She didn't mind though. Linda stood up and dropped the book in her hands.

She rushed into the depths of the house. Within seconds, she was back with the first aid kit.

"Let me treat you guys." Linda said.

Everyone sat down. Linda treated Kai first. She cleaned his wounds and bandaged the ones that covered a large area.

Once she was done with Kai, she moved on to Ambrose. Roxie was the last one to receive treatment.
