After he left, Arthur sat alone, the unsettling silence filling the atmosphere thereafter as the wind came in again, carrying the earthy aroma of damp soil through the open window slightly compromising the heavy scent of smoke and wood. His gaze remained steady, his expression unreadable as those eyes seemed carved from the same stone as the patio, unyielding and unfeeling. It was just the flames that seemed the only source of life in the room.

As the wind whispered through the window, the man’s eyes narrowed slightly as if he sensed the change in the weather but his gaze never wavered from the flames. The silence was broken by the sound of footsteps echoing in the hallway, those light steps that didn’t care to hide their arrival, when a familiar man walked in.
