The forest behind the temple was serene, a sharp contrast to Anita’s churning nerves. She stood in a small clearing, her hands clenched into fists as Jace circled her, his usual teasing smirk replaced with a look of focus.

“Alright, lesson one,” Jace began, his arms crossed. “The fox bead isn’t just raw power—it’s energy that reacts to your emotions. If you’re scared, it’ll flinch. If you’re confident, it’ll listen. So, let’s see what we’re working with.”

Anita raised an eyebrow. “What does that mean? Are you going to attack me or something?”

Jace shrugged. “Something like that.”

Before Anita could protest, Jace flicked his wrist, and a small burst of fox fire zipped toward her. She yelped, jumping back instinctively, but the bead on her wrist flared to life. A shield of light materialized around her just in time to block the attack.

“Not bad,” Jace said, grinning. “Now let’s see if you can do it on purpose.”
