Chapter 59: Training Intensifies
Anita stood in the clearing behind her house, sweat dripping down her face as she struggled to maintain the glowing energy shield around her. The shimmering barrier flickered like a weak flame, threatening to vanish with every passing second.
“Focus!” Jace’s sharp voice cut through the stillness of the forest. “You’re pouring too much energy into it. Control the flow, or you’ll burn yourself out!”
“I’m trying!” Anita snapped, gritting her teeth. The strain was unbearable, and her arms trembled as if holding up an invisible weight.
Jace circled her like a hawk, his eyes narrowing. “Trying isn’t enough. If this were a real fight, you’d already be dead.”
“Gee, thanks for the pep talk,” Anita muttered, her voice dripping with sarcasm.
Jace smirked but didn’t let up. “This isn’t about being nice, Anita. You’ve got raw power, but that doesn’t mean anything if you can’t control it. Again!”
