The atmosphere in the school library was unusually tense. Anita sat at a corner table, staring at the crumpled note she had found in her locker that morning: “He’s watching you. Even closer than you think.”

Later that day, during training in the forest, Anita paced furiously while Jace leaned against a tree, arms crossed.

“It has to be someone in my group,” she said, her voice taut with frustration. “The attacks, the timing—they know too much about where I’ll be.”

Jace’s eyes narrowed. “Kael doesn’t work in halves. If he’s planted a spy, it’s someone you trust implicitly. That’s how he operates.”

Anita stopped pacing, the weight of his words sinking in. Her mind raced through faces: Max, Claire, the others who had joined their cause. None of them seemed capable of betraying her—but the evidence was undeniable.
