Chapter 66: A Moment of Peace

The forest was quiet, bathed in the soft amber light of the setting sun. Anita sat on a moss-covered rock, her knees drawn to her chest, while Jace leaned against a tree nearby, arms folded as he gazed into the distance.

For once, there were no spirits lurking in the shadows, no threats pressing against them. Just the stillness of nature and the sound of the wind rustling the leaves.

“I can’t believe this,” Anita muttered, breaking the silence. “A month ago, my biggest problem was finishing my history project and remembering my lines for the play. Now…” She trailed off, gesturing vaguely.

Jace smirked, though there was a softness in his eyes. “Now you’re caught between an ancient sorcerer and a mystical war over a fox bead. Quite the upgrade.”

Anita gave him a wry look. “Yeah, dream come true.”
