Chapter 69: A New Power Emerges
The air in the library was thick with tension as Jace instructed Anita on a new technique. The dim light of the overhead lamp cast long shadows, dancing across the room as Anita focused on the glowing fox bead in her hand.
“Spirit summoning isn’t something you can just dabble in,” Jace cautioned, his tone unusually serious. “It requires precision, control, and—most importantly—restraint. Even a slight mistake could backfire.”
Anita took a deep breath, nodding. “I’m ready. Let’s do this.”
Max leaned against a bookshelf, arms crossed. “I still think this is insane. Summoning another spirit? Isn’t that, like, inviting trouble to the party?”
“Not all spirits are hostile,” Jace explained, shooting Max a look. “Some can be allies. But they won’t come willingly if they don’t respect the summoner’s strength.”
Claire raised an eyebrow. “So, basically, Anita has to impress them or risk getting ghost-punched. Sounds fun.”
