The silence in the safe house was almost suffocating. Ren sat curled up in the corner of the room, hugging his knees. Anita watched him with a protective yet uneasy gaze, while Jace paced the room, his tails faintly visible for a moment before vanishing. The air felt heavy, charged with something unnatural.

“What’s the plan now?” Anita asked, breaking the silence. Her voice was low, but her unease was evident.

Jace glanced at Ren, who hadn’t moved or spoken since stepping inside. “We’ll figure that out once we know more about him.”

Anita frowned. “He’s a kid, Jace. Not some enemy to interrogate.”

Jace stopped pacing and turned to her, his eyes sharp. “He might be a kid, but Kael doesn’t care about that. You felt it too, didn’t you? The pulse when he walked in. Something’s wrong.”
