Chapter 90: Shadows on the Horizon

The calm of the morning didn’t last long. The faint chirping of birds was replaced by distant echoes—rumblings that reverberated in the air like a distant storm. Anita, Jace, and Kael stepped outside, the cool breeze brushing against their skin as they looked out toward the horizon. The serenity of the rising sun was marred by something unnatural: dark clouds twisting in the distance, like smoke from an unseen fire.

Anita’s heart sank. Whatever peace they had won was fleeting. Something was stirring, something big.

Kael squinted, his sharp eyes scanning the horizon. “That’s not weather,” he muttered. “Something’s wrong.”

Jace clenched his fists, his newly restored energy thrumming just beneath his skin. The fox bead’s power had stabilized, but he could feel it pulsing, reacting to whatever was out there. It was a warning, a sign that danger was approaching.
