Chapter 121: Echoes of the Past
The forest was eerily quiet as Anita and Jace trudged forward, the tension from the Sanctuary’s events still lingering. The moon cast long shadows over the path, and the glow of the Threads that now pulsed faintly on Anita’s skin added an otherworldly aura to their surroundings.
“You feel that?” Jace asked, his voice low.
Anita frowned. “Feel what?”
“Like… something’s watching us.”
Anita’s steps faltered as she scanned their surroundings, her instincts prickling. The Threads responded to her unease, glimmering faintly as if preparing to defend her.
“Relax,” she said, trying to reassure herself as much as Jace. “It’s probably just the aftermath of what we went through.”
Jace didn’t look convinced, his hand gripping the hilt of his blade. “Maybe. Or maybe it’s something worse.”
Before Anita could respond, a low growl echoed through the trees.
“Guess we’re about to find out,” Jace muttered, drawing his sword.
