Chapter 148: The Guardian’s Wrath
The massive shadow loomed over them, its amorphous form twisting with malice. Red eyes burned like embers within its dark visage, and the whispers that had haunted them throughout the valley now morphed into guttural snarls.
“Stay sharp!” Lira commanded, positioning herself between Anita and the creature. “It’s stronger than the last one!”
The beast let out an earth-shattering roar and lunged. The ground beneath them trembled with each step as it hurtled toward the altar.
Jace stepped forward, blade at the ready. “If you want the shard, you’ll have to go through me!” He dashed to the side to draw the beast’s attention, slashing at one of its elongated limbs.
The blade sliced through the shadowy tendrils, but just as before, the creature seemed to regenerate. Its dark mass reformed instantly, and it lashed out at Jace with incredible speed.
He barely managed to roll away. “Lira, we need to find a weak spot!”
