Chapter 150: Fragments of the Whole
The night had settled, but the eerie glow of the shards offered a dim light as they pressed deeper into the forest. The air was heavy with tension, each step punctuated by the occasional rustle of leaves or the distant howl of an unseen predator.
Anita couldn’t get the figure’s words out of her head. “The shards are fragments of a soul,” she muttered under her breath, her fingers brushing against the glowing stones in her pouch.
Jace, walking slightly ahead, glanced back. “What are you thinking?”
She hesitated. “If the shards are parts of a soul, whose soul? And what happens when we reunite them?”
“That’s a dangerous question,” Lira said, her voice low as she scanned the trees. “If we don’t like the answer, it might be too late to undo it.”
