Chapter 157: The Heart of the Veil
It was not a smooth ride to the Heart of the Veil at all. The three of them went through an overgrown forest that every breath seemed to be charged with magic. They were huge, with a dark green foliage and twisted branches that created a dense layer that excluded even the worst sort of light – the sun.
“This place is alive,” Lira murmured and she put her hand on top of the pouch with the flask. "I can feel it watching us."
Anita agreed with a nod and her hand on the staff clenched. The voice from the orb had been silenced, or rather silenced so that all one could hear was the unsettling noise of the forest. "Stay alert. We know not what we are to meet."
Jace, who led the way, looked nervously around. His fox ears perked up and his tails were just visible behind him. "Something’s off. I mean this magic, it is too concentrated.”
