Chapter 166: Hearts Amid Chaos
The chamber lights flickered like they were alive at the same time the wall engravings started to change tones and the voices took on a haunting chorus. The sound of her heart's fast beat was matched by the strong sensation of danger all around her. Despite the tumult all around her she never stopped watching Jace because his unwavering focus provided her a safe harbor.
Jace whispered softly "Keep next to me."
Anita held her small dagger tightly and told him, "I'm not moving from this spot."
A new earthquake shook their position when ghostly figures appeared out of the walls. The light from their eyes looked exactly like the stones they were carved from. They moved slowly toward us, staring only at the bright stone on the table.
Without thinking Jace blocked Anita's path and the fox bead on his fox tail emitted soft light. The light blue apparitions surprised us both.
