The couple stepped out from the dim chamber into fresh outside air where their racing hearts continued to pound from the explosive moment they shared. The key Anita held appeared heavier than its delicate appearance because of its intricately designed proportions that glimmered under the setting sunlight. 


His golden eyes studied her face as he looked her way. “Do you feel it?” 


“Feel what?” Anita asked as she rotated the key between her fingers. 


Jace warned with carefulness that "Whatever that thing is—it’s not just an object." “There’s something alive about it. Connected.” 


Frowning deeply Anita moved the key toward her face. The slight heat from the artifact caused an unpleasant ripple to run along her back. The object shows signs of life so what force connects to it? 


The distance seemed to distract Jace as he stayed quiet without breaking his view. “We’ll find out soon enough.”
