Third person POV
The doctor's words hung in the air like a challenge, each syllable piercing Aiden's heart with a sharpness that felt almost physical. He grasped Artemis's hand tightly, his eyes locked on hers as if seeking strength from her gaze alone.
"What do you mean?" Aiden asked, his voice barely above a whisper. The room seemed to fade away except for the three of them—Artemis, the doctor, and himself—trapped in this moment of uncertainty.
"I'm so sorry," the doctor began softly. "It appears that Artemis is experiencing complications with her pregnancy. Unfortunately, we're seeing signs of... miscarriage."
Aiden felt as if he had been punched in the chest; air escaped him involuntarily as he struggled to process what was happening. "No... no way," he muttered incredulously.
