C11 - A Trivial Purchase

Yin Kai entered the Martial Beast Pavilion. He currently had two thousand, one hundred, and forty seven Martial Coins at hand.

He walked over to the area holding the Spirit Chickens. For the time of year, the selection of spirit chickens was fairly standard. There was a Flowermane rooster, a Lion-necked rooster, an Infernal rooster, and even a Big-Eye rooster. However, he was in the market for hens. He went up to one of the pavilion employees.

"Do you by chance have any spirit hens?"

The employee apologized. "I'm sorry, but this is the entirety of our full-grown stock."

"Do you have any younger spirit hens you can sell me?"

The employee paused, looked over his shoulder, and glanced around the room. "Walk with me." The employee responded.

He took Yin Kai to the back of the building. "Normally we're not allowed to sell the stock, but I can make an exception. Right now the pavilion is under shock from a recent auction. As such we need as much money as we can get."

"Here they are. The roosters are on the right, the hens are here."

Yin Kai studied the cage in front of him. After looking at every spirit hen equally, he spoke. "I'll take the firetail, the infernal, the big-eye out front, and that one there." He pointed at one of the smaller, featherless spirit hens.

The employee smiled. "I can round it for you to 2000 Martial Coins."

"In that case, will I be able to get a Beast Ring as well?"

The Martial Beast Pavilion had a deal. Spend 2000 Martial Coins, get a Beast Ring for free.

There were three types of spatial rings. The first was Space Rings, which were bought from the Huo Clan and given to young masters throughout the Alliance. A small world was sealed inside, but anything live would die upon entering.

To solve this problem, the Huo Clan began to create Life Rings to allow entry to beasts as well as inanimate objects.

The third form of Spatial Rings were known as the Beast Rings. Several hundred years ago, the Martial Beast Heaven Sect gifted a pair of Flood Dragons to the Huo clan. In return for their goodwill and gracious blessing, the Huo Clan let them personally refine rings that could hold beasts, but not inanimate things.

"Yes, provided you have the Martial Coins on hand."

Counting them out, Yin Kai gave him the Martial Coins. Theoretically, it would round to 1800 Martial Coins when said and done, but the opportunity alone was worth the price.

Yin Kai returned to the front. A short moment later, the man came out carrying the Beast Ring. Inserting his Qi, Yin Kai checked the contents. Everything was good to go!

Pulling a cord from his pocket, he strung the beast ring around his neck.

He made his way back to the Martial Fist Temple Pavilion. There he found his fellow sectmates waiting by their cart, now loaded with his metal rods.

Lu Li, an Immortal Opening-stage senior , called out to him. "Junior Brother! Are you ready to head back as well?"

Yin Kai smiled. "I'm ready. Let us return, senior brother."

The cart took off. The sect wasn't that far away, and everything proceeded smoothly.

After reaching the sect and dropping off his

metal rods, Yin Kai visited the mission board. He added his own.

"Proficient Fire Qi user needed to build personal chicken cage. Offering 100 Martial Coins and a pair of Spirit Chickens for help."

Yin Kai walked back towards the library. He had a question on his mind.

Meanwhile, back at the Martial Beast Pavilion, a certain employee was bragging to his coworker about a certain illicit sale.

"Wen Mo!" came a shout from the back.

"Yes, elder?" the furtive employee asked, hurriedly jumping to the storage area. He was met with an angry Elder.

"What happened to the spirit hens that were in this cage?"

"I sold them for 1900 Martial Coins to a black-haired cultivator in white robes. You asked for initiative last week, and we needed the money to pay for the auction deficit."

The elder became eerily quiet. A minute lapsed, then he added in a mere whisper, "So you decided to sell the auction item itself for a fraction of its actual cost?"

"Wen Mo, you are truly foolish. Stay there."

The foolish employee, Wen Mo, looked around, aghast, unable to comprehend what was happening.

The elder put a sign on the door that said, "Closed," and began to put all of the store's contents in various beast rings.

He tasked one of his employees, Jing Hua, to find the identity of the man who bought the bird, and then continued his process of closing down the store. With the rules of the sect, he had fallen in further debt than the store could handle.

The sect would no longer tolerate his management of the store. Thus, he had to close up shop and return before a stronger candidate would come to pick it up.

With a tremble in his hand, he finalized the act.

Afterwards, he grabbed his two remaining employees and took off on a flying sword to surrender himself and Wen Mo to the mercy of the Martial Beast Heaven Sect.
