Edward Harper's eyelids throbbed intensely. Clara Knox's tone made it clear she was not planning on having anything to do with him again; her heart now held only room for two children.
He felt it—she was avoiding the issue.
After all, this was a reflection of her deep-seated inability to trust him.
Edward Harper sat down next to her on the sofa, his hands unconsciously crossed in front of his knees,
"Clara, I am a straightforward man, I'm not good at saying things that sweet-talk girls. But now, I want to tell you earnestly that in my life, I have only ever loved one woman, and there has only been you. If there isn't you, there will be no one else. You are right; life isn't very long, I don't want to settle."
Clara Knox swallowed.
"Edward Harper, you should be able to feel it, I am not mentally prepared."
"I know, I'm not forcing you to give me an answer now. I just hope you will seriously consider it and not avoid the issue."
