Clara Knox returned home, and her grandmother had already gone to bed.
She made an excuse about working overtime, and it seemed the elderly woman didn't suspect anything.
The two kids had just taken a bath and were getting ready for bed; Max Knox ran to his room on his own, while Lucas Knox was throwing a tantrum at Juliana Simmons. Their mommy had promised over the phone to come home and put her to bed, tell her stories, but now she still hadn't come back.
Juliana Simmons looked as though she saw salvation the moment Clara walked through the door.
"See, your mommy is back now. Aunt Simmons always said your mommy would keep her promises to Lucas. Now let's go back to the room, okay?"
Lucas Knox's face burst into a radiant smile as soon as Clara walked through the door.
"Mommy!"
She stretched out her arms, wanting Clara to pick her up.
Clara changed her shoes and walked over.
