"Huh..." Donovan Jennings suddenly chuckled, obviously amused by Scarlett Garrison's comeback.
Adam Jennings's face darkened, "You're just being unreasonable! How is that even possible?!"
Scarlett Garrison simply looked at him, "Isn't this your logic? I'm just using your logic to set conditions with you, what's wrong with that?"
"How can the stuff at the National Museum be the same as a room?" Adam Jennings was almost laughed to anger by her.
Lucas Jennings couldn't help but interject, "Scarlett Garrison, why are you so petty? It's just a room; you're still allowed to stay. Is it really worth the fuss?"
Scarlett Garrison just laughed.
Indeed, with so many rooms, why insist on this one?
Luca Jennings from the third branch also stood up, "Adam didn't say anything wrong. That dreamy princess style was originally meant for little kids, and you don't seem to like it that much either. Why do you insist on competing with a child? If it really doesn't work, I'll give you my room, and Violet can have yours. That's that; let's stop arguing. Making a fuss over a room since yesterday, it's really quite a laughingstock."
Lucas Jennings also mumbled, "It's all because of someone; we never had these kinds of issues at home before."
Between the lines, he implied that Scarlett Garrison was causing trouble upon her return.
Everyone seemed to think that Scarlett Garrison was the problem, even though the room allocation had always been arranged by Odessa.
Listening to the exchange between them, Donovan's smile slowly turned cold. However, before he could speak,
Adam Jennings impatiently spoke, "After all is said and done, you just don't want to let..."
"Yes, I just don't want to let."
Scarlett Garrison's crisp voice entered everyone's ears, catching Adam and the others off-guard with her forceful refusal.
But Scarlett Garrison did refuse, looking at them with clear, calm, and indifferent eyes.
After all, she had heard similar accusations all her life.
"[Isolde is your sister, and you as the elder sister should accommodate her!]"
"[How can we keep a fox in the house? What if it scares Isolde? Get rid of it immediately!]"
"[You're freeloading at home, and now you even want to keep a pet; Scarlett Garrison, are you deliberately trying to upset the household?]"
She had long grown accustomed to such "accusations."
But accustomed does not mean accepting.
We're all people for the first time, why should I give in to you just because you're younger?
Moreover, that room was personally arranged by her parents with expectations for her birth.
There were people who had looked forward to her arrival with hope, and she had only found out yesterday.
...
Ismeria Jennings thought that with her brothers stepping in, the room would definitely be hers today.
But unexpectedly, in the end, the bad woman, Scarlett Garrison, refused to give in!
Azura was right; once she came back, she was no longer the only girl in the house, and everyone would no longer spoil her as they did before.
See, even Brother Donovan wasn't taking her side.
The more Ismeria thought about it, the angrier she became, and she burst into tears once again.
"Boohoo, I hate you! Get out of my house! Get out!"
With these words, the hallway fell into a moment of silence.
Scarlett Garrison's eyelashes trembled lightly as she stood there, showing no discernible emotion.
Lucas and the others were also a bit stunned.
A commotion was one thing, but even the most brash Lucas knew that there were some things that shouldn't be said lightly.
Sure enough, in the next second, a cold and warning voice burst forth.
"Ismeria Jennings!"
Donovan Jennings looked at Ismeria, his face colder and more severe than ever before, scaring the about to make a scene Ismeria into trembling all over.
She instantly forgot to cry.
At this moment, two figures walked upstairs from below; it was Luca Jennings and Blaise Jennings, the two brothers, obviously both had just returned from the company. Luca's face was as cold and imposing as ever,
"What's all this commotion about?"
Odessa felt a pang of anxiety in her heart. Without waiting for others to speak, she hurriedly dragged Ismeria over and explained with a forced smile,
"A couple of the kids were just quarreling. It's my fault. I didn't consider everything thoroughly when preparing Scarlett's room. Violet made a fuss about wanting to swap rooms with her sister, but Scarlett wasn't willing..."
In the space of two sentences, she brushed aside the previous incident of the brothers pressuring Scarlett Garrison to give up her room, instead highlighting Scarlett's unwillingness.
Donovan Jennings frowned upon hearing this, just about to explain, when Blaise Jennings puzzledly interjected, "It's just a room issue. Didn't we reassign them yesterday?"
Luca Jennings also furrowed his brows, his gaze shifting towards Scarlett Garrison, but then he said, "Let's set the room issue aside for now. Scarlett, I have a question for you."
Upon hearing Luca Jennings ask, Scarlett Garrison instinctively looked at him, only to hear him ask her in a deep voice,
"Did you go to the Silva Family today?"
Scarlett's eyes flickered slightly, but she quickly regained her composure and nodded, "Yes."
Luca Jennings's brows creased slightly, his expression growing more solemn.
"Didn't I say yesterday to not get involved with the Silva Family's matters? I'll handle things on their end."
Donovan Jennings also sensed something off in his father's attitude and stepped forward, positioning himself in front of Scarlett Garrison to ask, "Did something happen?"
Beside him, Blaise Jennings explained, "The Silva Family called Big Brother, saying Scarlett went to Mrs. Silva in the afternoon and said some strange things. They're asking what's going on."
Upon this revelation, everyone's gaze almost instantly shifted towards Scarlett Garrison.
The looks either shocked or filled with blame, clearly faulting her for meddling.
Because of the earlier talk about swapping wits, the Jennings Family had to tread carefully with the Silva Family's daughter's matters, and yet she went to the Silva Family saying all sorts of nonsense. Was she trying to worsen the relation between the Silva and Jennings families?!
"What were you thinking? It was bad enough saying all those things about ghosts and spells at home, but to actually go to the Silva Family, didn't you take what Uncle said yesterday seriously?!"
"Scarlett, you really don't understand the larger picture. Our families have joint projects in motion," Odessa said in a tone of exasperation.
Lucas Jennings fanned the flames, "Look at how much trouble you've caused just after coming home!"
Scarlett Garrison just stood there, ignoring the mockery from several people and looked straight at Luca Jennings, "I didn't say I was part of the Jennings Family."
Blaise Jennings interjected, "If the Silva Family wanted to investigate someone, they could easily find out. I heard you also went there in the Chalmers Family's car."
Scarlett Garrison pursed her lips, aware she had not considered things properly.
Luca Jennings asked her what she had said during her visit to the Silva Family because when Mr. Silva called, his tone seemed to be suppressing something, possibly anger.
Scarlett Garrison briefly recounted her visit to the Silva Family, including her suspicions that Andrea Silva could be in danger.
Hearing this, everyone looked even more shockingly at Scarlett Garrison.
To tell a family their member might be in danger was akin to casting a curse!
Scarlett Garrison was truly thoughtless!
Luca Jennings looked at Scarlett Garrison with a tight expression and after a long pause, he said,
"You were reckless in this matter. Even if you truly understand such things, you should not have been so brazen as to directly speak of them. I will explain the situation to the Silva Family, but do not interfere with Ms. Silva's affairs anymore."
Luca Jennings didn't want his newly-found daughter to get tangled up in trouble.
Scarlett Garrison opened her mouth to say something, but then she heard Luca Jennings continue,
"As for the room, since Ismeria likes it, let her have it. I'll have the housekeeper choose another room for you, and you can redecorate it however you like."
Luca Jennings didn't think a room was that significant. The room held his longing for his daughter in the past, but now that she was back, a single room was inconsequential.
More than that, he preferred not to let Scarlett start off on the wrong foot with the family, to avoid making it difficult for her to get along with the other children in the future.
However, Luca Jennings didn't realize that his casual remark made Scarlett Garrison suddenly startle.
For a long moment, the light in her almond-shaped eyes seemed to dim inch by inch.
Like a meteor flashing through the forest in the deep night, it flickered briefly before fading back into the darkness.
Donovan Jennings, who was nearby, called out in haste, "Dad!"
Just as he was about to explain that the issue wasn't as simple as their father thought, Scarlett Garrison had already begun to speak, her voice light and calm,
"No need."
Her tone sounded detached, seemingly more distant than the day before.
That's how she looked at Luca Jennings, speaking softly,
"I'll move out."
