Chapter 2 The Child is Yours

Yanyan couldn't hold on any longer and slid to the ground, clutching at his trouser leg and pleading, "I can bear anything, but the child must be safe!"

"I won't marry you anymore, just save the child, please."

"My child? Heh."

Bo Yunshen sneered, "In my entire life, I, Bo Yunshen, have only slept with one woman, her name is Lin Man. Who are you, Qin Yan, to even compare yourself to Manman?"

He picked up the household registration book from the dressing table and waved it at Qin Yan: "Looking to get a marriage certificate, is that it?"

Qin Yan was in so much pain she could not speak, a cold sweat streaming down her forehead. But none of these were the worst of it; what chilled her heart the most was Bo Yunshen's gaze—the murderous intent she saw in the depths of his eyes, as though he wished she would die right here today.

Bo Yunshen, looking down from his lofty position, gazed at her with eyes as if filled with a millennium of cold ice: "If you can survive today, then I'll marry you!"

Bo Yunshen took the household registration book with him, and with a clang, he closed the door to the bridal chamber.

Right after, Qin Yan heard the sound of keys turning outside the door.

Her hand that fell on her stomach couldn't help but tremble; the next second, she immediately started crawling toward the door—

The doorknob was smeared with blood, but no matter how hard she tried, it wouldn't budge.

Yes, she had guessed right; the door had been locked from the outside by Bo Yunshen.

To take his revenge on her for Lin Man and to make her suffer, he had cut off all her communication with the outside world. He wanted her to die in their bridal chamber, even if it meant bearing the blame for murder.

"Come back!"

"Bo Yunshen, come back! The child is yours! You may not want me, but you can't abandon our child."

"I can't."

Qin Yan was in excruciating pain, nearly becoming numb.

When she wanted to give up, her belly kept convulsing in waves, and although it might have been an illusion, she always felt her baby was good, eager to come out, eager to glimpse the world, even if just for a moment.

Premature babies are not easy to survive, especially since her child had been so difficult to conceive.

Qin Yan could let down anyone, but not the child; it was an innocent little life.

She supported herself against the door and walked step by step to the dressing table. She grabbed a pair of scissors and with a ripping sound, she tore open her wedding dress, exposing her round belly.

Struggling to bend over, she took the medical kit and, leaving a trail of blood with each step, slowly made her way to the bathroom.

Qin Yan lay in the bathtub, filled with warm water to ease the pain.

The night grew dark, the contractions became more frequent, and the amniotic fluid broke, but the babyjust wouldn't come out.

During a prenatal checkup, the doctor had told her that the baby was in a breech position and might be difficult to deliver, recommending a cesarean section. But in her current situation, how could she possibly have a cesarean?

She could only bite down hard on her teeth, push with all her might, recklessly, all to give her baby a fighting chance at life.

As dawn approached, Qin Yan lost her strength, and the baby still hadn't come out, she couldn't even feel fetal movement anymore.

Qin Yan was terrified.

Her mother had died of illness, her father had remarried, and Yunshen did not want her anymore.

In her short life of a little over twenty years, she had lost everything she was supposed to lose.

She wanted to keep this child; even if it cost her life, she was willing.

She bit down on a dry towel, took a scalpel from the medical box, and following the contours of her belly carefully, she sliced down—

She had once studied medicine but had never imagined using the scalpel on herself.

For more than ten minutes, she didn't know how she had endured; all she knew was that, when her consciousness was fading, she heard a loud cry.

Her baby had come into the world.

...

Blood was rapidly draining from her body, and the massive wound sprayed fluid that dyed the entire bathtub red.

The moment the child came out, the strength drained from Qin Yan's body, her eyelids so heavy she couldn't lift them, her head spinning, and a dark miasma seemed to envelop her entirely.

She saw herself eight years earlier and also Yunshen, who had embraced and kissed her back then.

Then, she saw Lin Man.

Eight months ago, Lin Man had come to her panicked, crying, and saying, "Yanyan, you have to help me! The Bo Family kept it from me, and I only found out now that all three of Bo Yun's older brothers died of cancer! He will die too, sooner or later!"

"Yanyan, I don't want to be a widow."

"Yanyan, the Bo Family is forcing me to give Yunshen a child, to leave a descendant for him."

"Yanyan, if I really marry him, my life is ruined."

"Yanyan, you like him, don't you? Please help me. The Bo Family only needs a child, it doesn't matter who bears it."

"Yanyan."

Dazed, Qin Yan saw in her mind a man and a woman entwined naked. If only they could stop at that one night, how good it would be.

How good it would be if everything had stopped on that night when he loved her.

But how can the matters of this world be redone with 'ifs'?

Qin Yan was probably losing too much blood, her mind swirling with fragmented memories.

In the end, she saw the illusion of Lin Man approaching step by step with a bloody child, then showing a sinister smile: "Yanyan, thank you. Thank you for giving birth to Yunshen's child for me. I'll take good care of him and also take good care of Yunshen."

"Yanyan, go in peace. I will live your life for you."

Qin Yan smiled resignedly.

That was fine, that was okay, after all, the person Yunshen loved now was Lin Man.

With her death, there would be nothing between them anymore.
