Chapter 4: Stay at My Place Tonight

She opened her eyes and saw Gu Wei's stern and handsome face in front of her.

"Ah, I'm really sorry, I actually fell asleep." She was somewhat nervous.

Gu Wei smiled faintly, "It's okay. You must be tired from work during the day."

Su Meixi: "..."

Is he showing concern for her?

"Come and have dinner. I didn't want to wake you, but I've already reheated the food twice. It won't taste good if I heat it again."

Su Meixi looked at her watch and realized it was already 9 PM!

She had slept for two hours!

From sitting to lying down, her body was covered with a thin blanket.

She hurriedly got up and wiped the drool from the corner of her mouth.

Just as she was about to join him for dinner, her phone rang.

It was a voice call from the neighbor Uncle Zhang.

"Xiao Xi, where are you right now? I just went downstairs to throw out the trash and saw your older brother—the one who used to bully you—not just him, but he also brought two friends, and they looked furious. I'm afraid they're here to trouble you. Maybe you shouldn't come home tonight."

"I'm at a friend's house; okay, thank you, Uncle Zhang, I'll stay out tonight."

After ending the call, Su Meixi helplessly looked at Gu Wei.

The room was silent, and Gu Wei had heard everything.

He asked angrily, "Does this person often bully you?"

"Not really. I don't see him a few times a year, but every time he wants to bully me, I always manage to escape, and the neighbors help me too." Su Meixi said proudly.

Gu Wei, however, became even angrier, "A few times a year and you think that's not often? How long will you tolerate him?"

Su Meixi paused, then said sadly, "He is a thug who collects protection fees at nightclubs. I dare not really offend him, afraid... afraid of retaliation. He has a bunch of thug friends."

The methods of those people, she didn't dare to imagine.

"Where exactly is your home?" Gu Wei asked.

Su Meixi simply took out her ID card from her bag and handed it to him, "It's the address on this."

Gu Wei took it, snapped a photo, and then went out onto the balcony to make a call.

When he came back, he told Su Meixi, "It's been taken care of."

"Taken care of?" Su Meixi asked in surprise, "How did you resolve it?"

Gu Wei was about to say that he used their own methods against them, that by finding the right people, naturally, someone would take care of Li Jiekai.

However, seeing Su Meixi's wide, watery eyes, he suddenly changed his response, "I just contacted a friend who temporarily persuaded those guys to leave, but I'm not sure if they might come back late at night. For safety's sake, you should move in with me as soon as possible... really."

Su Meixi hesitated for a moment and then agreed.

Although she had always disliked Li Jiekai, she had never had a direct conflict with him before. Today, since Gu Wei hit him, he certainly wouldn't let it go. For safety, it was better to stay with Gu Wei.

...

After dinner, Gu Wei went downstairs to the supermarket and bought Su Meixi a big bag of daily necessities, including cups, toothbrushes, slippers, etc.

When Su Meixi checked inside, she even found underwear and a camisole sleepwear.

"I didn't know what color you liked, so I just bought some," Gu Wei said.

Su Meixi, looking at the pink underwear, smiled awkwardly, "It's okay. I'll only wear them at home anyway."

"It's getting late. You should rest early," Gu Wei said, his face showing concern.

"Then... which room should I stay in tonight?" Su Meixi asked.

Gu Wei considered, "It doesn't matter. Sleep wherever you like."

Preferably in the same room as him.

Su Meixi then bit her lip.

God knows how sexy this gesture looked to a man.

Gu Wei swallowed hard.

"Maybe, I should stay in the guest room then. You're injured, and we aren't formally married yet. Let's wait until we are married, then... then we can live together?" Su Meixi asked.

Gu Wei nodded, his response firm and decisive, like answering a question during military training, "That was my intention too. Before we're formally married, I promise not to hurt you. I do as I say!"

Su Meixi suddenly found him a bit adorable.

Curious, she asked, "You're a soldier, right? Will our marriage be complicated?"

"Not complicated. I'll write an application later. Once they review your information, it will be approved."

"It's just security approval, right? My parents are divorced. Will that affect it?"

"Divorce doesn't matter, as long as they haven't committed any serious crimes, it almost always gets approved."

"That's a relief. My life doesn't really relate to them anyway."

Gu Wei looked at Su Meixi, wanting to say something, but she had already taken the pile of daily necessities and returned to the guest room.

...

The next morning, Su Meixi woke up and glanced at the European-style ceiling light and the exquisite decoration inside the room, feeling slightly bewildered.

Overnight, she had become a married woman!

She changed her clothes and saw that Gu Wei was already up, with breakfast he had bought from outside on the table.

"Good morning," Gu Wei greeted her formally.

When they had first met, this expression of his had made her nervous; now, Su Meixi found his serious demeanor quite endearing.

"Mr. Gu, you're up so early?" Su Meixi asked.

"Couldn't sleep, so I got up. You have to go to work in a bit. Have something to eat first. I didn't know what you liked, so I just bought a bit of everything."

Su Meixi felt a warmth in her heart.

During her past relationship with Qi Anran, he would also buy breakfast for her every day. However, after delivering breakfast, Qi Anran would expect her praise, and she had to offer it.

Gu Wei was different; it seemed he just genuinely wanted her to be well-fed.

Su Meixi sat down, "Mr. Gu, I..."

"Just call me Gu Wei," he said.

"Gu Wei, okay then, and you don't have to call me Dr. Su either, just call me Ah Xi," Su Meixi was interrupted and forgot what she was going to say.

After eating three dumplings, she remembered and quickly said, "Gu Wei, are you going to the hospital to change your bandages today? If it's too much trouble, you can change them at home. I'll go down and buy some external-use medicine later."

Gu Wei quickly replied, "No need. I'm going to another hospital later. I made an appointment with a male doctor."

"Oh, a male doctor. That would be easier," Su Meixi swallowed another dumpling.

Seeing that Su Meixi didn't continue, Gu Wei wasn't sure if he had hurt her feelings, so he explained, "It's not that I distrust your medical skills, but that doctor is my friend, and he insisted on seeing me after we spoke yesterday."

Su Meixi, seeing him explain, realized he cared about her feelings and hurriedly replied, "It's okay. I'm not concerned about that. Since you have a friend, then go see him, it also saves the trouble of registering and queueing, right?"

Gu Wei smiled, then picked up a napkin.

But instead of using it himself, he extended his hand to wipe Su Meixi's mouth.
