Chapter 5 I naturally also coveted Mr. Pei's good looks

Qiao Ruizhi knew her words were frivolous, making the chance of him giving up the idea of cohabitation very low, possibly even causing disgust, which might lead to unexpected results.

She took a deep breath in secret and met Pei Liyan's dark eyes, deciding she might as well continue being frivolous.

"Being attracted to beauty is human nature, Mr. Pei. Faced with a handsome man like you, I'm just an ordinary girl; it's hard to avoid being distracted. You'll get used to it, Mr. Pei."

Pei Liyan imperceptibly raised an eyebrow, his gaze falling on Qiao Rui's hands resting on her legs, which were unconsciously tightening.

He curled the corner of his mouth without a trace: "So, you're saying my appearance meets your standards of beauty?"

Qiao Rui tensed up, saying, "Mr. Pei's appearance meets the general public's standards of beauty, and all my cousins like you too."

"And you?" Pei Liyan countered.

Qiao Rui paused for a moment.

The man looked her over leisurely, his eyes sharp and dangerous, filled with a discerning light, incredibly incisive.

Qiao Rui's hand tightened unconsciously: "Me? Naturally, I also covet Mr. Pei's good looks."

"Is that so?" Pei Liyan smiled faintly, his voice magnetic, "Miss Qiao, you seem a bit nervous. Relax, I can indulge your admiration for my beauty."

Qiao Rui's face flushed but quickly settled down.

She had intended to make Pei Liyan dismiss the idea of cohabitation by deliberately saying those frivolous things, but it backfired.

This man gave her a strong sense of danger for the first time.

Fine sweat broke out in the palm of her hand, but she still looked up into his piercing eyes: "Mr. Pei is mistaken. Being able to live with you is always a win for me; there's no need to be nervous."

Pei Liyan's gaze met the girl's black-framed glasses, and the eyes behind them, seemingly veiled, were inscrutable.

He narrowed his eyes and gave a soft grunt. "That's good."

The car slowly stopped, and the driver said, "President, we've arrived."

Qiao Rui looked up and saw the Goddess sign, a glint passing through the depths of her eyes.

She collected her gaze without any change in expression.

Pei Liyan ordered in a deep voice, "Get out."

Qiao Rui followed him out of the car, standing at the entrance of Goddess, and was immediately ushered in.

The staff at Goddess were well trained. Despite Qiao Rui looking so plain, they showed no signs of surprise and greeted them warmly.

"Sir, madam, welcome."

Pei Liyan walked in, and his assistant Fang Mo immediately came up to meet him. "President, we've arranged for Goddess's best stylist and manager, Mr. Jiang Jinfeng."

Pei Liyan nodded and took a seat on the sofa.

Qiao Rui stood to the side and glanced inward when she heard the name Jiang Jinfeng.

Just then, a tall man came out from inside.

He was dressed in a sharp, color-blocked suit, with crisp lines and exquisite fabric. A small patch of beard adorned his chin, and his haircut was neat. His whole demeanor exuded a full personality, and his eyes had a hint of languidness.

His trendy outfit gained warmth from his interpretation, exuding a stylish, metropolitan vibe.

Upon seeing Qiao Rui, the man's eyes flickered and then glanced at Pei Liyan, promptly saying seriously, "Mr. Pei's visit brings honor to Goddess."

Pei Liyan nodded slightly, his eyes deep, "Manager Jiang is too kind."

Jiang Jinfeng smiled: "Is Mr. Pei here to have me style this lady?"

"Yes," Pei Liyan said. "Manager Jiang, your services are appreciated."

"No trouble at all," Jiang Jinfeng looked at Qiao Rui and said, "Miss, please follow me."

He nodded slightly to Pei Liyan and turned, leading Qiao Rui inside.

Miss Qiao left with someone without a word.

Fang Mo kept his gaze fixed on them; he watched as Jiang Jinfeng took Miss Qiao into a separate makeup room.

He glanced over, and a staff member beside him said with a smile, "Sir, there's no need to worry. Our Manager Jiang is Miss Rui Qing's personal stylist and also one of the founders of Goddess. She will definitely give that lady the best makeover."

Personal stylist for Rui Qing?

Pei Liyan narrowed his eyes, his sharp gaze sweeping towards that makeup room, revealing an aggressive edge.

Fang Mo was a bit worried; from yesterday until now, Rui Qing was still missing, alive or dead unknown.

Inside the makeup room.

As soon as Jiang Jinfeng entered, he dropped his serious facade, winked at Qiao Rui, and lowered his voice, "Ancestor, Pei Liyan's assistant actually came to me to do your styling. I really wanted to turn it down, but he's a fat piece of meat I couldn't resist."

Qiao Rui spoke indifferently, "You shouldn't have taken this job."

"The business came knocking at my door; how could I not take it?"

Qiao Rui asked, "My current persona is that of a country bumpkin, so how do you plan to style me?"

Jiang Jinfeng looked at Qiao Rui and immediately found himself in a dilemma, "Then what do we do? Do you continue to play ugly?"

"If I continue to play ugly, it will ruin your reputation," analyzed Qiao Rui. "It will also put the styling room in a tough spot."

Jiang Jinfeng frowned, his expression serious as he looked at Qiao Rui, "Then what should we do?"

Qiao Rui looked at him, seemingly not as worried, "Of course, you continue styling me, using your skills to make me look perfect."

"Ancestor, you know me; if I style you, the moment you go out, you'll become a star," Jiang Jinfeng

Qiao Rui looked at herself in the mirror, black-framed glasses, an expressionless face, just a very ordinary one at that. Without even looking at the clothes and matching them to her current ordinary face, one could tell it was utterly unsophisticated.

She smiled and said, "Jinfeng, come on, let's get started. I will cover for you afterwards."

Jiang Jinfeng looked worried. "Ancestor, what exactly are you thinking? Is Pei Liyan really out to silence someone?"

"Jinfeng!" Qiao Rui exclaimed to stop him.

Jiang Jinfeng sighed, "Okay, whatever you say, I'll do."

He was about to take off Qiao Rui's glasses when a knock on the door suddenly sounded.

"Come in!" Jiang Jinfeng said in a deep voice.

The door opened and Lin Jing, the receptionist, came in to report, "Manager Jiang, there are a lot of reporters gathered outside our Goddess' entrance; they say they want to interview Mr. Pei."

"Reporters interviewing Mr. Pei?" Jiang Jinfeng frowned and exchanged a subtle look with Qiao Rui before asking Lin Jing, "The content?"

Lin Jing glanced at Qiao Rui, hesitating.

"Speak," Jiang Jinfeng said in a heavy voice.

Lin Jing then spoke, "The reporters are saying that there's a rumor Mr. Pei had an intimate night with the young star Rui Qing the night before last, so they wanted to come to confirm with Mr. Pei. Also, Miss Rui Qing's whereabouts and whether she is dead or alive are unknown, they are asking if this has something to do with Mr. Pei?"

Jiang Jinfeng was taken aback and suddenly caught the scent of something; he immediately looked at Qiao Rui.

Qiao Rui's face was calm, as if all of this had nothing to do with her.

Jiang Jinfeng furrowed his brows and said, "Keep the reporters outside. If Mr. Pei is interviewed in our styling room, that's our incompetence; once they're out of this door, it has nothing to do with us."

"Yes," Lin Jing quickly went to make the arrangements.

Jiang Jinfeng looked at Qiao Rui, "Still going through with it?"

Qiao Rui took off her glasses, revealing her small palm-sized face, a face that looked plain no matter how one saw it.

She looked at Jiang Jinfeng, her eyes filled with sympathy. "Let's begin."

As soon as Jiang Jinfeng saw her like this, he immediately furrowed his brows in protest, "Your face has brought you eight lifetimes of bad luck, you, oh you, what a waste of heavenly gifts."
