Chapter 36: Alone and Miserable.

Violet Don returned home with the night breeze at her heels, draped in moonlight. As she pushed open the door, the small silhouette with sleepy eyes didn't appear to greet her. For a moment, she actually felt a bit lonely.

Her brother, Owen Don, was often away on business, and usually, if there was something urgent, he would just sleep in his workshop and rarely come home. Most of the time, it was just the two of them, mother and son living in the house. Now even Wayne Don was not around, leaving the air in the house so still it could drive one mad.

Violet lowered her gaze, feeling all her emotions amplified countless times by the alcohol. With each violent throb of her heart, a sharp pain tugged at her chest. She took a shower again, which gradually eased the panic that had been clawing at her.
