Chapter 13 Picking Up Younger Brother from the Hospital

Su Jinqi listened, her vision darkened, and she nearly fainted. Clutching Li Su'e's arm tightly, she warned, "Don't come looking for him at the company again, and you're not allowed to go to his family's place either!"

"Qiqi, you have to have a conscience. Now that you've married into a wealthy family, are you just going to disregard your own family's life and death?" Li Su'e gave her a disdainful look, "Without me and your uncle, could you and Jincheng have grown up?"

"That still doesn't give you the right to go! Six hundred and sixty thousand should be enough to repay you for twenty years of upbringing!" Su Jinqi yelled angrily, tears swirling in her eyes.

Seeing her anger, Li Su'e didn't dare to say much more, fearing she would offend this great backer and simply obliged, "Alright, alright, I won't look for him anymore, okay? We're all family, let's not hurt our feelings."

Su Jinqi let out a long sigh of relief and added, "Spend the money frugally, go to the bank to exchange it, and ask your uncle to go with you."

"I got it," Li Su'e was thrilled, "You should get back to work. I'll take a taxi home, safely. If there's anything, Aunt will call you."

"Oh, right," Su Jinqi continued, "We're both busy and won't be visiting in three days after the wedding, let's talk about it later."

"Sure, sure, Jinghan is busy, I understand. We'll make an official visit after the wedding ceremony. I'm leaving now." Li Su'e's attitude was no longer as forceful as it had been the day before.

Watching Li Su'e hail a taxi and leave by the roadside, Su Jinqi couldn't help but smile bitterly: Now that the bride price is in hand, there's really no need to make that return visit.

Li Jinghan did not come back all afternoon, and Su Jinqi's heart was all over the place, leading to several mistakes at work. Luckily, Jin Shanya wasn't around, otherwise a scolding would have been inevitable.

At six o'clock in the afternoon, the General Secretarial Office closed shop right on time.

Su Jinqi entered the elevator with her colleagues when a WeChat message suddenly arrived: Qiqi, I am waiting for you at the company's main entrance.

Secretary Gao, standing next to Su Jinqi, caught a glimpse of the name.

"Qiyang Brother?" Secretary Gao teased with a smile, "Secretary Su, do you have a boyfriend now?"

Su Jinqi's face turned red, and after swiftly sending off a message and locking her phone, she clarified, "No, he's just the brother of a neighbor."

But Secretary Gao clearly didn't buy it and teased her further, "Maybe not now, but who knows about later? Are you two in a flirtatious phase?"

Su Jinqi was really taken aback by her gossipy nature and didn't want to explain further. After all, no matter what she said, Gao wouldn't believe her, so she just smiled it off.

At the entrance of "Kunpeng" company, Ye Qiyang greeted Su Jinqi and her colleagues with a big smile as he waved his hand.

"Qiqi!"

"Hey? Isn't that Ye Qiyang from the marketing department?" Secretary Gao recognized him, "I had no idea you two were neighbors."

Su Jinqi replied indifferently, "Yeah, right, he's in marketing."

Secretary Gao had the decency not to probe any further and left in a taxi.

"Qiqi." There was a fiery look in Ye Qiyang's eyes, slightly red-faced, as he offered the sandwich to Su Jinqi with some embarrassment, "I came out a bit early and bought this for you at the convenience store next door, you must be hungry, right?"

Su Jinqi, having been bothered by her aunt earlier, indeed hadn't eaten much for lunch and now was really feeling hungry.

She took the sandwich with a smile, opened the wrapper while saying with some admiration, "Qiyang, you're always so caring; whoever becomes your wife in the future is really blessed from a past life."

Ye Qiyang affectionately ruffled her hair and said helplessly with a smile, "Stop worrying about it; eat up!"

Su Jinqi and Ye Qiyang grew up together since she was little, always taking her little brother to his house for meals. Aunt Ye liked her a lot and would always playfully ask if she wanted to be Qiyang's little wife.

As they gradually grew up, even though the first stirrings of love began, neither had the inclination, focusing instead on their studies. After graduating from university, they started working together at "Kunpeng". Deep down, she regarded Ye Qiyang as a brother.

"Come over for dinner tonight; my mom has been asking about you," Ye Qiyang said to Su Jinqi as they stood by the roadside waiting for a taxi.

Su Jinqi replied, "Not today, Jincheng is being discharged from the hospital today; I have to go there to handle the paperwork. Besides, you've just returned from a business trip and have a lot of work to do. Maybe some other time."

"Jincheng is getting discharged today? That's great!" Ye Qiyang happily suggested, "Let's go, I'll go with you to the hospital."

Just then, a taxi stopped in front of them, and without giving Su Jinqi a chance to refuse, Ye Qiyang opened the door, and they both got in.

From inside a black car at the company entrance, Li Jinghan had witnessed everything between the two.

"Which department is this guy from?" Li Jinghan coldly asked.

Ming Can cautiously replied, "It looks like it's Ye Qiyang from the marketing department. I've seen him a few times when I visited the marketing department, a pretty diligent young man."

"Huh." Li Jinghan let out an ambiguous chuckle, not saying anything else.

Ming Can glanced at him in the rearview mirror with puzzled expression and asked, "Sir, why did you let Secretary Su's aunt get into the car today? I thought you really disliked her family?"

"The easiest way to deal with such pests is with money. Moreover, they've staged this whole drama; it would be a waste not to let them finish their act."

"Do you mean Secretary Su called her aunt to ask for the bride price?"

"The whole family wants that bride price," said Li Jinghan with a mocking smile on his lips.

Ming Can blinked a couple of times, not pressing further. But in his heart, he didn't think Secretary Su was greedy for money. On the contrary, it was the aunt who seemed truly mercenary.

"Call Secretary Jin to ask what's taking so long to fetch something; when did she become so slow at getting things done?"

Just as Li Jinghan finished speaking, Jin Shanya opened the door and got into the car.

People's Hospital.

After Su Jinqi had completed the discharge procedures, Ye Qiyang helped pack up everything, and the three of them happily left the hospital.

"Jincheng, since you've been hospitalized for almost half a month, you must be craving some flavors, right? What would you like to eat?" asked Ye Qiyang with a genial smile.

Jincheng was in good spirits and pondered for a moment before saying, "Right now, I just want to eat the spicy skewers from the school's back gate. Perfect, you two can also drop me off at school on the way."

"Let's go then."

"No way."

Su Jinqi and Ye Qiyang objected in unison.

"Jincheng, your body hasn't fully recovered yet, so stop eating miscellaneous stuff. Let's stick to proper meals and vegetables," Su Jinqi sternly suggested.

"Big sis!" Su Jincheng called out discontentedly, then complained to Ye Qiyang, "See, my sister is such a downer."

Ye Qiyang said to Su Jinqi, "Having it just once won't hurt. It's tough for Jincheng being in the hospital without any of his favorite food; don't be so strict. Consider it a favor for me, just this once."

Seeing the two of them, Su Jinqi finally gave in with a helpless shake of her head, "I can't win against you two; if you want to eat, let's go eat!"
