Hinata was leaving another exhausting day of classes when he noticed Ennoshita approaching him.
"Hey, Hinata! Since we don't have practice after school today, we second-years would like you to join us for the private tutoring session I'm giving to Tanaka and Nishinoya. The rest of the second-years will be there too, and we want to spend more time with our first-years!" Ennoshita said, smiling as he invited Hinata.
"Hmm, Ennoshita-san, you want me to come to help you teach those two troublemakers, don't you?" Hinata said, squinting his eyes.
"Ah, you guessed it!" Ennoshita replied, surprised.
"It's fine, I'll go... but I'd like to invite Kageyama too," Hinata said.
"You can bring him along. Like I said, it's happening at Tanaka's place. I'll text you the address. See you there!" Ennoshita said as he walked away.
After meeting up with Kageyama, the two headed to Tanaka's house and were greeted by him.
"Oh, you two are here! Hurry up, we're studying upstairs!" Tanaka said as he climbed the stairs and headed to his room, where the other second-years were already gathered.
"They're here!" Tanaka announced as he sat down.
"Hello!" they all said.
"Hello!" Hinata and Kageyama replied in unison as they sat down near the table.
"How's your studying going, Kageyama?" Tanaka asked.
"Hmm... there's a lot to memorize for English vocabulary, but I think I'm getting better over time," Kageyama said thoughtfully.
"That's awesome!" Tanaka said excitedly.
"Alright! I'll grab some snacks so we can focus better!" Tanaka said as he got up and went downstairs.
"Speaking of studying, Nishinoya, do you have the test you took yesterday?" Ennoshita asked.
"Here it is!" Nishinoya said, handing over a paper to Ennoshita.
"I GOT SNACKS!" Tanaka shouted as he brought some potato chips and placed them near the group.
"On this test... the answers are always in the text, so you just need to read carefully. In the quote, which sentence best matches Norio's conflicting feelings?" Ennoshita read.
"BE MORE MANLY, NORIO!" Nishinoya said, reading his own answer.
"Don't ignore Norio's feelings!" Ennoshita said, though Nishinoya ignored him.
"You're amazing, Noya-san!" Tanaka said, admiring Nishinoya's attitude.
"Noya-san, your problem with reading texts is because you don't read many books, right?" Hinata asked.
"YES! I don't read books! At most, I look at the pictures in some of them! I'm lazy!" Nishinoya declared.
"Alright... then I have a technique that might help you with these questions where you have to read a text and identify something in it. I taught it to Kageyama," Hinata said, pointing at Kageyama.
"Oh... this technique exists, and it helped Kageyama?" Tanaka asked curiously.
"Yes, it's called scanning," Hinata said.
"Scanning... that sounds cool!" Nishinoya repeated.
"Scanning is a reading technique where you skim through the text to locate specific information," Kageyama explained while reading his own homework.
"Instead of focusing on every word in the text, you ignore the parts that aren't important to save time. Using this technique, you get less tired because you don't have to read the entire text all the time, but it takes some practice to avoid skipping essential details," Hinata added.
"That sounds effective! Why didn't you teach us this before, Ennoshita?!" Tanaka complained as he opened a bag of chips.
"Because I'm not lazy and have patience when reading, but I admit it's a good technique," Ennoshita said, shrugging.
"We want to try this!" Nishinoya said, pointing at himself.
"Alright, take your test and try reading the questions while using this technique to find the answers in the quotes," Ennoshita said, handing the test back to Nishinoya, who started reading until his attention was caught by a female figure entering the room.
"I can't believe you guys are actually trying to study!" Saeko said as she walked in.
"Saeko-neesan!" Nishinoya greeted.
"Hey, Yuu! How's it going?... Oh, Hinata-kun is here too!" Saeko said, looking at Hinata.
"Hello, how are you?" Hinata said, smiling.
"Haven't seen you since the match against those jerks from Shiratorizawa. I hope you're training to wipe the floor with those snobs!" Saeko said.
"That's what I want most, and I'm working hard for it! But to have a good training camp in Tokyo, these knuckleheads need to get decent grades," Hinata commented.
"Hmm. I see! Do you need me to teach you anything?" Saeko asked.
"What would you know? You just work and train!" Tanaka replied.
"Don't underestimate university students! I'm out of here!" Saeko said, smacking Tanaka on the head before leaving.
"What does she train?" Narita asked.
"She trains... taiko and is putting together a team," Tanaka said.
"That's awesome!" Kinoshita said.
After a few more hours of studying, everyone was getting ready to leave.
"What about the triple date we were planning?" Hinata said.
"Well, we just need to finally set a date and make it happen," Tanaka said.
"LET'S PLAN SOMETHING FOR SATURDAY!" Nishinoya shouted.
"Won't Daichi-san get mad at you guys for going out instead of studying?" Kageyama asked.
"They're doing their best. They're not sleeping in class or anything like that. Focusing only on studying without any breaks isn't ideal either. I don't think it's a problem," Ennoshita said.
"Then it's decided! How about karaoke? From what I understand, girls love karaoke!" Hinata said.
"ALRIGHT! Now we just have to invite them," Nishinoya said.
"That's the hard part... I'm already nervous about asking Kanoka, let alone inviting Kiyoko-san... good luck..." Tanaka said, patting Hinata on the back.
"I don't see what the big deal is. I already made plans with Maiko-san days ago!" Nishinoya said.
"You've already talked to her about it and call her by her first name? This time, you've outdone yourself, Noya-san!" Tanaka said, impressed.
