….

On the screen, Senator Stern was going on about national security and protecting the people, accusing Stark of illegally having high-tech weapons. He demanded Stark hand over the Iron Man suit.

Stark shot back that he was the Iron Man suit; they were one and the same. Giving up the suit would be like giving up himself, basically turning him into forced labor or making him sell his body, as he put it dramatically.

The room was packed: military guys, greedy businessmen, members of Congress, secret Hydra agents, and Iron Man himself. All these different groups were packed into one small space, arguing back and forth, trying to sound smart while debating whether Stark should have to "sell his body." It was quite a show.

Lemu, watching it all unfold, almost wanted to applaud the sheer chaos.

Then, Justin Hammer stepped up, showing videos of countries and groups all over the world trying (and failing) to copy the Iron Man suit. He hoped this would pressure Stark, making him give up the tech for the 'greater good'.

Stark didn't miss a beat. He instantly hacked the screens in the room and displayed his own collection of videos – showing exactly how badly everyone else had failed. He even included a clip from Hammer Industries where their copycat suit nearly snapped a test pilot in half. Justin Hammer himself was right there in the embarrassing footage.

Clearly winning, Stark stood tall, looked straight at the cameras, and bragged, "I alone am capable of keeping world peace!"

The camera caught Justin Hammer staring daggers first at Stark, then at Senator Stern. His face was sheet-white with fury. Twenty-five million dollars, completely wasted. You could practically hear him screaming in his head, 'Give me my damn money back!'

Senator Stern looked even angrier, his face turning beet red. He was probably cursing Hammer for being useless and bringing such pathetic evidence.

Just like that, their little alliance crumbled. Sometimes partnerships bloom, other times they explode into bitter rivalries.

Lemu finished his breakfast and wiped his mouth thoughtfully.

He should probably swing by Stark's place later this afternoon if he had time. Stark might look all tough and lively on TV, but Lemu bet he was currently holed up in a bathroom somewhere, anxiously checking his blood for toxins, then pouting and sucking on the finger the testing needle had pricked.

"Wow, he's so cool," Alice murmured, watching Stark's bold declaration on the TV.

Cool? Handsome?

Lemu's brow furrowed slightly. He pursed his lips, a familiar sour feeling bubbling up inside him.

It was a known fact: Lemu could get pretty petty, like he was made of 66% vinegar and 44% easily stirred-up feelings. (Okay, the math didn't add up, but the feeling did!)

He shot Alice a sideways glance, his voice deliberately flat, "Oh? So you like the cool, handsome type?"

Seeing that slightly pouty look in his eyes, a playful smile touched Alice's lake-blue eyes. "Not really," she said softly. "I mean, I might see a big, fierce dog on the street and think, 'Wow, that looks cool,' but the things I actually like… I prefer cute."

She looked right at Lemu, her expression serious, her eyes filled with genuine affection.

"I like your type. Only your type. I like your light blue hair, your cool little hands, your soft bouncy cheeks, and that faintly sweet scent you have, like sugar water."

How did Alice know what Lemu smelled like? Well, that's not important right now.

What was important was that this sudden, direct confession hit him like a ton of bricks—fast and hard—leaving him completely stunned.

It felt like standing under a cherry blossom tree when a light, refreshing rain suddenly starts to fall, the air instantly filled with the sweet smell of flowers mixed with cool mist.

…No, no, snap out of it! Lemu's mind screamed. This woman is just messing with you! Don't fall for it again!

He was fighting a fierce battle inside his head.

Absolutely do not fall for it!

Poke… poke…

A finger gently pressed against Lemu's dazed cheek. His face was soft and springy, dimpling slightly under the touch before bouncing back.

It was Alice, her face now lit up with hopeful expectation.

"Hey, Young Master," she said softly. "We don't have much going on these next couple of days, right? So… why don't we go out and have some fun? Remember when we first met? You asked me to go to the zoo and the amusement park with you, and you even asked for my number."

Looking into Alice's sparkling eyes, Lemu realized he had absolutely no power to resist…

Fine… whatever… He gave up.

"…Okay, we'll leave this afternoon. Let me get ready. We can spend a day at Disneyland, and then another day at the St. Mungo Zoo."

Stark? Who was Stark again?

….

The two days and one night with Alice were amazing—so much fun that Lemu didn't even want to go home.

If Alice hadn't absolutely needed to go back to school on Monday, Lemu probably would have dragged her off on a trip around the world.

When Lemu finally returned, all alone, to his huge, luxurious seaside villa, the empty rooms suddenly reminded him who Stark was.

Oh yeah, Stark… wasn't he that guy? The one who was dying soon.

…Didn't really know him that well. Didn't really care.

….

Another whole week drifted by before Lemu finally bothered to head over to Stark's villa.

Amazing how, amidst his oh-so-busy schedule, he actually found the time to come save someone's life. Truly remarkable.

Lemu pushed open the villa's main door and walked straight upstairs.

"Welcome, Mr. Echeberria," Jarvis greeted him politely.

In the living room, Stark and Pepper were busy kissing and cuddling, completely wrapped up in each other. Jarvis's voice didn't even register.

With a mischievous grin, Lemu shouted loudly, "Tony! Heard you got poisoned! Just came to see if you're dead yet!"

Pepper jumped at the sound of Lemu's voice, quickly pulling away from Stark's embrace.

She flusteredly smoothed down her clothes, her face turning red with embarrassment. "Oh… hi, Lemu. You're here. Come on in, have a seat."
