Yes, I acknowledged the complexity of Ares' involvement, understanding that his actions may have strayed from Blaire's designs. But in this moment of solitude, with the weight of my past bearing down upon me, I could not deny the sense of gratitude that welled within my chest. However tangled the web of alliances and betrayals may be, I clung to the belief that perhaps, just perhaps, I could carve out a new path for myself- one free from the shadows of my past.
"Now, you have nowhere to go..." Xia's voice echoed within me, a pang of hunger underscoring her words.
Drawing in a steadying breath, I responded to her with a semblance of resolve. "I'm sure I could find that cabin Anna mentioned," I murmured aloud, my thoughts momentarily interrupted as a speeding car careened dangerously close to me.
Miraculously, it missed me by mere inches.
