Hazel shouldn't have said that, especially after deleting that incoming message. Flynn was obviously suspicious. Hazel never acted this way. But they had just reconciled. How could Flynn start another argument?
"Really?" Flynn asked, half-disbelieving. His tone made it clear he was skeptical, and Hazel could feel it.
"Y–yeah," Hazel stammered. How could she not be nervous when she was clearly lying? Again, Flynn shouldn't be picking a fight, and Hazel was trying to keep the peace by not bringing up the devil who had just contacted her.
The devil she didn't want to talk about. That jerk, Alfred!
"Alright. I'm going to take a shower," Flynn got up from the bed, deciding to shower at dawn. Maybe cold water would refresh him, or perhaps he'd go for a jog first. Not fighting with Hazel was good, but he still felt frustrated.
It was obvious she was hiding something.
