Hazel used to think that sacrificing for others was normal. She had been doing it since she was a child, when Grace moved to Evony Park, specifically to the back pavilion, shortly before her parents passed away.
Grace always wanted to be like her, and Hazel's mother said that sharing with her cousin was good. Grace's mother had just died. Hazel's parents took them in and gave them work. Grace was Hazel's age, so they were bound to become friends.
Hazel only realized that her mother's teaching—to open her heart to other—was not well received by Grace. Hazel had often shared. She had often given in. Hazel knew what it meant to sacrifice.
But after years of doing it, Grace even took her fiancé, her parents' house, and everything that mattered to Hazel.
Hazel no longer believed in any of it.
Sacrifice was a bunch of nonsense!
