CHAPTER 143: From Lies to Love

The walk to the car felt like an eternity. My heart pounded in my chest, and every breath was shallow. When we reached the car, Alexander surprised me by opening the passenger door.

"Sit." He ordered gently and I obeyed.

As he reached for something in the car, his face close to mine, I swallowed hard, the proximity sending a jolt of electricity through me.

He pulled out a pair of slippers. "For you," he said, his voice low.

I watched as he knelt, gently helping me out of my shoes. His touch was light, yet it sent a shiver down my spine. When he stood up, offering me his arm, I took it, feeling a sense of relief wash over me. His smile was warm and genuine, and for a moment, the weight of our shared history seemed to lift. I found myself relaxing instantly and knew that whatever we discussed today, even if we didn't end up together, it would be different from how we'd left things in the hospital.
